I’ve previously only heard one track by The Guys, and it’s a fairly materialistic song featuring what might be the greatest Pokemon rap reference of all time. So hearing them masterfully execute a tribute to classic angry Ice Cube, packed with all the incendiary political anger which rightfully should go into a proper Ice Cube tribute… that was an awesome surprise. Not because political rap is inherently more appealing to me than rap about making money, it’s not (at all). It’s just nice to see people do some different and unexpected shit and do it well.
