I’ve had mixed feelings about Salva’s previous work with rappers, but this one really hit home as a great homage to classic West Coast rap. The last minute is a full-on tribute to the Chronic.

Taken from Salva’s Peacemaker album, available for download HERE.

In terms of simple fundamentals that make up good rap music, this might be the best song that has or will come out today (today being the day of several anticipated high-profile releases).

Premiered via SFWeekly; taken from the upcoming Darkest Before Dawn compilation, hosted by The Thizzler

EDIT: While we’re here, might as well throw in this latest leak from Shady’s upcoming collab with Deniro Farrar…

The ‘remix’ designation is pure semantics, for all relevant intents and purposes this is just a new Main Attakionz song that samples some band called Dominant Legs. Produced by Ammbush of SWTBRDS (I think).

‘Ride For This’ is from the newly announced Young One Records sampler (MORE HERE).

Can’t quite pin this one down, kinda retro but vaguely futuristic too. Good either way.

Ab-Soul – controlsystem (Full Album Stream)

TDE continue to successfully filter Dungeon Family influences through a West Coast perspective. Controlsystem is very good, although not quite as good as Q’s Habit’s and Contradictions. Very strong in the beginning and middle, looses a little steam toward the end. While the experiments with style and structure are welcome and well executed, the strongest moments here are often the simplest. Most of the real highlights happen when Soul and his guests just settle into a simple loop and rip it to shreds. Everything beyond that feels ornamental, added to make things more interesting; the eccentric flourishes are a nice addition but never the main draw.
