Excellent verses here from Surf Club’s Kent M$ney. The C.R.E.A.M.y chorus works too. Hopefully we get a longer version with an actual verse from Chili Chil eventually. Kent is quite serious and should definitely be on radars. Becoming has done nothing if not gotten better with time since it came out.

Thursday, October 28th, 2010Two brand new polished Surf Club jammies. Chase and Hit-Boy have always had interesting and innovative production ideas, but have sometimes seemingly lacked the experienced studio chops to always execute and fulfill the obvious potential. Those days are over and people are starting to pay attention. The same can be said for their rapping. It used to be that Chase or Hit-Boy would deliver a couple slick lines and I would find myself waiting for the next Chili Chil verse, but everyone has really stepped up as of late and the addition of Kent Money has been huge.
“Still Tippin” and “Back and Forth” are both well-crafted and artfully poppy. The overall star power is palpable and Kent Money’s skillset shines. When these guys blow up we’ll all win.

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010Shiny new instrumental venture from Surf Clubber Chase N. Cashe. He picks up right where LovEND left off, filling the space similarly here with a contrast of plodding glitchy darkness, and epic bombast. My only complaint is that “Space Cowboy” make zero reference to the Nsync banger. Bonus points for mixing in Uncle Luke over a Taylor Swift ready twanger.
Looks like the “Big Boys” are starting to pay attention too…

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010Kent Money ‘Becoming’
Monday, August 2nd, 2010Here is the long-awaited (well, by myself anyway) debut project from Kent Money. Ive talked about this kid’s potential before, and on Becoming we can start to see it’s materialization. Kent drops his intricate couplets over gritty space pop beats from his Suf Club bros Chase and Hit-Boy, some fantastic and diverse work from the UPS guys, a banger from Boi-1da and a beat and verse from newly crowned King Of The Net Big KRIT, who drops off some country Swizzy greatness. Kent really delivers here, dropping soulful and gritty street tales over Spragga Benz-ready block beaters, crisp boom-bap, minimalist alien funk, 110th Street soul jamz and even a little Hall & Oates. When his flow is on, there aren’t many new rappers out that can fuck with this guy. Another Surf Club victory.
