Sunday, August 22nd, 2010Kent Money ‘Becoming’
Monday, August 2nd, 2010Here is the long-awaited (well, by myself anyway) debut project from Kent Money. Ive talked about this kid’s potential before, and on Becoming we can start to see it’s materialization. Kent drops his intricate couplets over gritty space pop beats from his Suf Club bros Chase and Hit-Boy, some fantastic and diverse work from the UPS guys, a banger from Boi-1da and a beat and verse from newly crowned King Of The Net Big KRIT, who drops off some country Swizzy greatness. Kent really delivers here, dropping soulful and gritty street tales over Spragga Benz-ready block beaters, crisp boom-bap, minimalist alien funk, 110th Street soul jamz and even a little Hall & Oates. When his flow is on, there aren’t many new rappers out that can fuck with this guy. Another Surf Club victory.

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010FKi “Weed & Arizonas” (Prod. By Chase N. Cashe)
Monday, July 19th, 2010FKi make dope ass party jams. Chase N. Cashe is one of the best up and coming producers in the business (which you would know if you pay attention to my posts here… at all). This may be the best song either camp has produced. Absolutely fucking outstanding. I spotted this at Burn One’s spot too, where he delivered high praise for our Surf Club buddy’s beat chops.

Chase N Cashe “Came To See”
Sunday, July 4th, 2010Rey Reel delivers a sophisticated yet eerie beat here that sounds like it should be playing in one of those really nice, ultramodern bars with unsittable lit-up cube stools and “cool” lighting… next to the Antarctic lab from The Thing. Chase comes through some equally cool verses with a hard Wilford Brimley edge. The subtle bounce nod beat change on the third verse works.

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010Chili Chil “Still”
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010Social butterfly raps from Surf Club’s Chili Chil, who sounds like an even more desperate crackhead on this one (meant in the best possible way). Dude’s voice is incredibly engaging. With an excellent team of producers behind him, all Chil needs is a clear vision. I would hurt family members deeply for an album of songs like “Never Lonely”. Someone introduce him to Lil B…
