ST 2 Lettaz – Good Day in the Ghetto EP

New solo EP from ST 2 Lettaz of G-Side fame. Produced entirely by The Block Beattaz, of course, but the sound here is harder than on their previous space age exploits. There’s a feature from Clova (so it’s technically a G-Side song), a surprising cross-generational collab with The Migos and Hunstville legend Big Pope, and a nice cameo from another old HSV favorite Mic Strange. All in all good stuff. Read ST’s own description of the project below.

“I literally tried to format it like a TV series. This is season one and it’s mostly an introduction to the main character Crooked Letter. He is basically my whole crew I hustled with rolled into one person. All the stories, the personality traits, even his moral compass, it all derived from real people and real events. It’s 30 minutes long and even ends with a cliff hanger. To me, it’s a chance for the listener to let go of real life for a minute and live through my eyes and see what a good day in my ghetto consists of…and in some cases, it ain’t all good. The tape starts out with a nightmare.”

Since we got some new music from 3 Huntsville alums today, and we’re headed into the long weekend, seems like a good occasion to dust off this old gem put together by the esteemed Traps N’ Trunks crew. This is a great time capsule of the Hunstville scene at the time, tons of talented artists on here – G-Side and ST 2 Lettaz solo, Mr Marcellus, Jackie Chain, Kristmas, PT with his group Untamed, several members of the PRGz, etc etc… The sound leans toward trap but this was a multifaceted scene, so country rap tunes and space age excursions on 26″ rims crop up as well. As good a place to start as any if you’re not familiar with this city’s fertile rap history.

COMPILATION: Main Attrakionz – L.S.D. O.G. (Loosies in the Sky with the Diamonds Of God)

Main Attrakionz logged at least 50 releases between 2009-2012, if you count both group and solo projects. The number goes up to about 80 if you count collaborations and related Green Ova material. If you extend the date period to 2015, their upcoming 808s and Dark Grapes III album might just be somewhere around their 100th. That’s a whole shitload of music, and incredibly that’s actually not all of it. There were also innumerable loosies.

A lot of these random unattached tracks came out between late 2010 and 2012, arguably the peak period for the group in terms of both quality and popularity. Some were purposeful high-profile collaborations with other noteworthy rising rappers and producers of the era, the rest were likely just fortuitous byproducts of hyperactive creativity. A whole lot of them were really really good. Unfortunately, because the internet moves at such a rapid pace, many were quickly forgotten.

I’ve always thought it was a shame to just let all these gems fade away from memory. So with the anticipation of the new album in mind, I’ve decided to compile my favorite loosies from that time. Enjoy!
