San Quinn “I’m Wet” & “I’m Alright”

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Two yacht-worthy jamz from the new San Quinn album that make me really want to hear Quinn and Pieces of Man-era AZ trade verses. “I’m Alright” features (dope ass rapping and) a very classy apology for his beef with Messy Marv. Dignified. For what it’s worth, I recently decided that From A Boy To A Man has achieved personal classic status for this thug.

San Quinnston Zeddemore makes Coldplay sound somewhat appealing. Sounding extra Rick Rossish with it, no? It all works quite well.

San Quinn ft. Cellski & Mac Mall “Drugs Guns Funds”

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Heavyweight banger courtesy three Bay legends. Everyone delivers, but Mac Mall’s energetic third verse sends this thing over the edge. For what it may be worth, San Quinn’s From A Boy To A Man has reached personal classic status for me.

San Quinn & E-Klips

Contrast is always what makes these Bay Area one-off duo albums work. Quinn’s throaty crooning and SacTown’s E-Klips The Hustler’s slightly nasal effect work quite well side by side. The production is handled by E-Klips, who finds success in traditional g-funk influenced beats and gets stretched thin when he leans toward Rick Rock territory. San Quinn is obviously the superior rapper here (and everywhere else he goes), but E-Klips is at least decent enough to keep you from fast-forwarding to the next Quinn verse. Thankfully, unlike most of these projects, there isn’t an overwhelming number of guest appearances. It does get kind of annoying when E-Klips calls himself “The Hus” though… wishful thinking.

Tonite Show 2 Pack: Quinn vs. Mess

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

San Quinn and Messy Marv are in the midst of a tiff and both just released Tonite Show mixtapes with DJ Fresh. Both go quite hard. I am biased toward Quinn, but his tape is especially nice. Fresh and The Whole Shabang provide outstanding beats, as usual. Check em out

Ka’Pone – Thank You x Here Comes Trouble (Remix)

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

When you think of the Lou, you mainly think of guys like Albert Pujols, Nelly or Steven Jackson, but this time next year you might be adding another name to that list. Ka’Pone is one of the newest lyricists to come out of St. Louis and is putting the finishes touches on his newest mixtape, “Here Comes Trouble” with help from the infamous DJ Burn One. –Philaflava
