BossMan – BossMan Beats Volume 1 (STREAM)

Friday, June 17th, 2011

BossMan has a pretty solid resume of beats under the SMS/O’Third Ent banner. I think his first really notable work was on G-Side’s ‘#I’mSorry’, and since then he has made some impressive contributions to the Huntsville scene (some of which we posted). This guy is definitely a worthy addition to a label that build its reputation around top-notch production.

Judging by the 200$ pricetag, I’m fairly certain that this small collection of insturmentals was posted for sales/promotional purposes, meant to be bought and rapped over. But they’re also strong enough to stand on their own without vocals, so I figured it was worth a post. The expansive spacey vibe shows traces of a Block Beattaz influence, nothing wrong with that at all.

PS: In general, SMS needs to release more instrumentals.

Zilla – Zilla Shit (MIXTAPE)

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Further catching up on ‘Bama music I missed over vacation. Zilla has dropped a steady stream of good single tracks over the past few years and this tape collects the best ones, with some new additions as well. Don’t sleep, there’s greatness here. ‘Like A Jungle’, ‘Mella Hatin’, ‘Wut Today Iz’, ‘I’m Goin’ and ‘The Realest’ are my favorites at the moment, but the whole is well worth while.

EDIT: A remastered version of this tape is now up on O’Third’s bandcamp, here is the updated streaming/downloading widget:

After an extremely aggravating work day this is hitting the spot just right.

Zilla and Monster have a joint mixtape coming called Komin’ Out Da Red, and Monster has a solo mixtape coming called Gutta,Gangsta,Gutta. I think Zilla has a solo album coming too in early 2011. Should be good.

O’Third Ent. & DJ Bizzy – The Celebration Mixtape

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

A new mixtape from O’Third Ent, put together in celebration of their official one year anniversary. It’s a pretty comprehensive overview of their short but productive existence. Several highlights from their debut In The Box are included, although I think that mixtape/album was a great release in of itself and is well worth hearing in it’s entirety (you can now get it on ITunes and DatPiff) The real appeal of the compilation is in collecting a lot of their more prominent loose singles under one roof – the workhorse manifesto ‘Can’t Outwork’em’, the inspirational ‘Somebody’, G-Side’s Bossman produced Huntspace voyage ‘I’m Sorry’, Zilla’s club oriented collab with Jackie Chain ‘Ladies on the floor’ – all included. There are also a few new songs too, I’m really enjoying the two by Zilla so they’re featured below. ‘Like A Jungle’ particularly is a a big favorite at the moment due to three absolutely ridiculous verses by Zilla, Clova and Bentley respectively.

Tracklist for the whole mixtape is below the jump.

O’Third Ent. – Look At Me Now ft ST and Kristmas (prod by Bossman)

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Here’s another good example of how O’Third Ent. is becoming a force both in their own right and as part of the SMS stable. Check out their In The Box Mixtape for more. Their next project Next Day Air should be coming soon.

This is dedicated to Mrs. Forsythe who told my mama I would either be a drug dealer or a factory worker based of them BS state test. This also dedicated to anybody else who said I wouldn’t be sh*t. Hopefully you can take this as your motivation to keep pressing as well.

SMS Presents: O’Third Ent. – In the box

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

This is good day for mixtapes, first Gibbs now this. You know SMS puts out quality product, and the O’Third crew has been on a particularly winning streak lately (see here). And you know releases from Huntsville are always family affairs, so there’s bound to be a cast of luminaries involved. So you know you gotta download this one.

EDIT: Had to revise the post a little after listening. There are nowhere near as many guests on here as I thought there would be. It’s an O’Third showcase all the way through, and it does a great job of displaying their considerable talents. Calling it a mixtape doesn’t do it justice either, as a cohesive statement of purpose it’s better than many ‘official’ albums released this year (granted, these semantic distinctions don’t matter much anymore).

Possible AKA… Huntsville got yachts. The above picture of Norman Connors boat-side lounging perfectly captures the sound and mood of this leisurely meditation on the subject of hard work finally paying off. Produced by DJ Cunta (I think.)
