10 Reasons Why Childish Gambino Is Better Than Drake

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Freaks and Geeks from Donald Glover on Vimeo.

A few weeks ago I caught the video Freaks And Geeks and was really impressed by the talents of Donald Glover, actor, comedian and rapper. Don’t get it twisted though, he’s been rapping longer than he’s been doing his Community thing. Troy Barnes maybe the only thing you know him as, but Childish Gambino (his moniker came from Wu-Tang name generator) is somebody you should definitely watch out for. –Philaflava

10 Reasons Why Childish Gambino Is Better Than Drake

10. Because he does Drake better than Drake and doesn’t even need auto-tune.
9. Because he has been rapping waaaaaaaaaay longer than he was doing sitcoms (like Drake).
8. Because he dropped his first album in 2008, while Drake dropped his in 2010.
7. Because he you can tell he is very serious about his craft and sincere about his lyrics. He may swag it up, but there is just as much swag as there is self-deprecation going on.
6. Because he knows who Odd Future is and likes them!
5. Because Drake is so damn easy to hate.
4. Because the name Donald Glover doesn’t sound a faggy as Aubrey Graham.
3. Because he is the closest we’ll ever get to being near Alison Brie’s sweater puppies.
2. Because he is a much better actor than Drake. Community > Degrassi all damn day.
1. Because he isn’t Canadian.

1. So is the OFWGKTA honeymoon over? Maybe not yet but the writing is on the wall. While they’ve become everyone’s favorite internet phenomenon this year; restoring faith in all the aging dinosaurs and helping a legion white angst Gleaming The Cube watching Z-boys get back on their boards with a Terry Kennedy shirt on, the fact remains each passing day Tyler continues to alienate his dollars. Many have compared them to Wu-Tang, though Odd Future is more like a group with a Ghostface, a Rae and a bunch of U-Gods. Prodigy wasn’t this much of a yenta during the trife life days of 4th & B’wy Tyler stays fucking up his Good Charlotte remix money with each his ridiculous diatribe about labels, bloggers, fans, people over the age of 18, people under the age of 18, you name it. Tyler talks so much like a broad he could be a stand-in for The View anytime Joy is sick.

I like Tyler, I have liked most of the OF release too, but it’s painful to see somebody handle success so poorly so fast. Staying true is great. Remaining loyal to friends, fans and your music is inspiring, but he he is slowing going to turn into this years Eli Porter with wit, charisma and Spock ears if he doesn’t pump his brakes. Saying faggot as many times as Vinnie Paz or his infatuation with over-enunciating nigger or constantly reminding us 2DopeBoyz snubbed them isn’t going to take them to the finish line. OF needs Earl to come home quick before the ship sails. Swag out!

2. Now that Devin The Dude has made a decent album since 2007 (Waiting To Inhale) is it cool to replace him with Curren$y?

3. In 2012 I have absolutely no desire to listen to anyone from Hieroglyphics not named Casual. What Cas needs to do is bounce the fuck from that team and link up with the Mob Figaz boys. Imagine a Casual album produced by Jake One, Alchemist, Droop-E, Traxamillion and maybe the SD50′s for old times?

4. Jay-Z’s interviews > Jay-Z’s verses lately

5. The greatest diss this year wasn’t in a form of a record, rather a Tweet. Jay Electronica simply annihilates Puffy with just a few lines of truth. Exposing Puff yet again to the opportunist, back-peddling snake that he is.

10 Random Thoughts That Shouldn’t Matter, But Kinda Really Do

10 . Can we cut the bullshit and admit Slum Village hasn’t really had a good album since Fantastic Vol. 2? The group literally lost two members and are left with one fat delusional c-level rapper and if Elzhi happens to be in the group today, an extremely underachieving to straight boring ass rapper. Who give a fuck? None are buying this album. Nobody is even downloading it. Attention Elzhi stop wasting time on remaking other peoples albums and get focused and write your own damn one that matches your potential.  Holla at Black Milk for the beats too. Danny Brown is owning Motown rappers right now.

9. J. Cole is a faggot.

8. Earl is this years internet sensation. At 16 years of age, he’s managed to create more buzz about him with virtually no co-sign, label, budget or big named producer behind him.

7. Curren$y’s new album “Pilot Talk” isn’t that good and you know it.

6. Roc Marciano’s Marcberg is probably one of the best albums of the year and I didn’t even think this until recently. It’s taken something like 4 months for me to fully appreciate the beauty of this album. I knew it was dope when it dropped but the album continues to grows on you like a fungus. Shit is phenomenal.

5. The Roots latest album “How I Got Over” is great and you won’t fully admit it. Simple, effective and is sequenced to perfection. But a Black Thought solo album can’t hurt.

4. Do the borks people that donated money to Ras Kass for his album A.D.I.D.A.S. get their money back? I know Ras and Bis share similar fan bases and I’m well aware of their defense mechanisms, but this album was an abomination. Can somebody lock Ras in a studio with the following producers, Alchemist, Jake One, Black Milk, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Nottz and maybe DJ Khalil? ABSOLUTELY no friends allowed. Somebody is feeding John John these horrible ideas that his watered down lyrics over cheap beats actually sounds good.

3. Can somebody put DEL out of his misery already?

$10,000 you get an Ep! a 5-7 song project where you get to work with del on the concept, vibe and the content! with your executive producer credits. Come spend a day with SIr DZL and add your 2cents on the project you want DeL to make! Real Talk!

(The 3k and 10k offers will have to be interviewed before Del can agree to move forward, Do to The Jerks and Dobalina’s in the world! If you are seriously interested email Deltronfans@gmail.com subject ( Serious Business)

3.  Does Aceyalone see any money from Mad Men? I know it’s a RJD2 beat, but it I can’t help but think about how Aceyalone hasn’t made a good album since Clinton was on office. And nobody is buying those Reggaton albums he had the audacity to put out a few years back. He’s gotta need some coin these days.

2. How long will it be before it’s cool to start hating on Yelawolf?

1. You’re pretty much an imbecile if you haven’t already voted in our Best New Rapper Tournament.

10 Opinions (popular or not)

Discuss, hate, agree or make your own 10. –Philaflava

10. Kid Cudi > Drake.

9. The MF Doom and Ghostface Killah collabo will NEVER happen.

8. The Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Raekwon collabo WILL happen, it just won’t live up to its expectations since all are mailing in verses from the road.

7. There isn’t one reunion in recent years that has lived up to its potential and there won’t be for the next lifetime. On paper they’re great, on record they suck. Face it.

6. Speaking of reunion albums, the new Goodie M.o.B. album should have CunninLynguists production on it. Need convincing? Listen to “Georgia Remix.” That is the sound they need so desperately on the album.

5. I’ve said this before so it’s nothing new, but Saigon, Termanlogy, Wale, Joe Budden, Blu or any other rapper who’s praised and promoted all over the internet isn’t touching Jay Electronica.

4. Mos Def has one more classic album in him, it just won’t happen until he and Madlib finally decide do their collabo effort.

3. As of now, Raekwon’s “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II” is the best rap album of 2009. It might not stay like that once December 31st hits but for now it is. Those who don’t believe it are either in denial or are just simply being atypical. Being that The Roots don’t drop until 2010, the only challengers might be Cormega or Big Boi. Reflect!

2. From a “technical” standpoint, Joell Ortiz might be the 2nd best Latino rapper ever. I’m not talking about 1/4 Latinos rappers either. Kill those Dipset suggetions homie. While everyone loves them some Kool Fashion and early Chino XL, not many cannot deny the lyrical ability of Joell. Sorry Immortal Tech, Fat Joe and B-Real. In a few years I just might be saying the same praise about Peedi Crakk if he ever gets his act together.

1. Andre’s “rapping” album is classic status already and he hasn’t even completed it. You’ll see, there is no way it can be anything other than phenomenal.
