New K-Beta – Inglorious Beta

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

New music from one of my favorite up and coming rappers!!!!

K-Beta – Inglorious Beta

Washington, D.C. buzzmaker K-Beta has hooked up with Inner Loop Records and DJBooth.net to bring listeners his debut full-length, Inglorious Beta.

In regard to the album’s title, K-Beta stated, “The word ‘inglorious’ refers to being in a state of utter shame and disgrace…I reflected on all of the trials and tribulations of my life, and searched for perspective through reading, meditating etc. It helped me understand that shame is [a] tool with which many build hiding places. Creating this album has helped me lift up the rug and expose all of the dirt underneath.”

Featuring “Burn Thru the Journal,” “Come Closer,” and 14 more new tracks from the rising star, the project finds K-Beta joined by a wide array of DMV-based collaborators, including Diamond District (Oddisee, XO and yU), Illa Ghee, Sketch, B. Sheba, Mina and Midian. Production comes courtesy of Team Demolition, Kev Brown, Kokayi, J-Scrilla, Overok, Souful!

Poem-cees: Some of DMV’s finest

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

If there was a version of De La Soul that I could say that honestly was from the DMV (or an extended link to the Native Tonues even), Poem-cees is very close to it. From the time they put projects such as I.O.U. Street and Paranoia to link with fellow DMV artists Priest Da Nomad and Storm The Unpredictable forming SPP Waxworks, these brothas stay busy. Known for their back and forth beatbox performances and slam poetry approach to rhyming, they’ve been prominent in the DMV scene for their originality.

Okay, if they don’t look familiar…..peep this bit from Def Poetry Jam…..

Aiight….now that thats out of the way, time to put you on some more game with their new album, “Everything You’ve Always Wanted” coming out this year. Not sure when but it is this year.

Here’s a sample from the album entitled “Honor” feat. Smokey Temptation (the voice may sound familiar, LOL)

Diamond District (Oddisee, X.O. & YU)

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

We’re bringin that crack back like Marion Berry. Check out the latest D.C. has to offer. No it ain’t another bail-out and no the healthcare bill was not passed (yet), but we got 3 tracks for you to check out if you late to this party. –Philaflava

The group Diamond District is comprised of emcee/producer Oddisee, and emcees X.O. and YU. Greatly influenced by their surroundings and love for 90′s east coast hip-hop, Diamond District is on a mission to bring back the sounds of old with a new twist and represent for the DMV. X.O. who was born & raised in the North West quarter of D.C. defines what it is to be a black male raised in the district. With lyrics that depict street life and harsh surroundings, X.O. has a way of philosophizing that raw, gutter reality of DC life that is rarely looked at or spoken about when we discuss our nation’s capitol. Oddisee defines the experience of growing up in black middle class Maryland. Bordering the poverty that his and many other families fled to escape, they found out over time that the troubles of the inner city came along with them. Oddisee’s soulful, haunting samples over bass-heavy beat breaks create the perfect instrumentals for Diamond District to match the street savvy, politically conscious lyrics that capture the dynamic of being from the DMV. Y.U., having been raised in the district, Maryland & Virginia, brings that extra variety to the group and shows that D.C. culture has a huge influence beyond its 10 mile radius. Being that YU has lived in all areas of the DMV, his lyrics and stories compliment the rest of the group and define what it means to be from the DMV. In The Ruff, is available now via Mello Music Group.
