More than words.

Cam’ron & Vado “Lights, Camera, Action”

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

I would never have guessed that the usually stuck in shitty Heatmakerz imitation mode AraabMuzik could make a beat like this. That bass line is nuts. Gotta love the lack of shrieks and rocket sounds too. Gunz N’ Butta, which is 100% awesome despite Araab’s efforts to make it sound like a Whoo Kid mixtape, is officially my first 2011 summer album.

Tony Yayo & Maino “OJ Gloves”

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

Maino has always been a little too regular for my tastes, but Yayo can swag anything the fuck out. We are well overdue for another solo tape from Tony, no? Speaking of collaborative efforts, I wonder what Tony would say if he saw Danny Brown’s new ‘do…

Lexx 9Eleven “Think They Know Me”

Friday, December 10th, 2010

Lexx is deeply commited to that turn of the century post-Jay, pre-50 NYC sound, and I deeply appreciate him for it. His “80′s Baby” and “Krazy Brazy” got some spins on Hot 97 a few years back, he was doing songs with Game and Sticky Fingaz and looking like the next big unsigned hype and then I pretty much lost track of him. Making a comeback with a Chase N. Cashe beat is just about the best way to do it. They style remains the same and Queens remains victorious.

Stalley “Hercules”

Friday, November 19th, 2010

I’ve been monitoring Ohio-bred Brooklyn micsman Stalley’s output closely since he destroyed a bunch of Ski production earlier this summer. The guy absolutely wrecks shop over smooth shit. His mixtape, “The Autobiography” got some attention last year (I slept on it because it involved “re-imagined” Madlib beats, which was a huge mistake on my part). Be better than me.

Lil Wanye & Nicki Minaj “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop”

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Man this feels like it was ages ago…

The album is pretty awesome by the way.

Bobby & The Harlem 6

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

New swashbuckler featuring B.O.B.B.Y. from Harlem 6′s recently released Wu-Tang tribute project, The New Breed (which is quite strong if you are into Wu-Filliation). Mixtape Conquer was my shit when Harlem 6 first came out as RZA’s pet project and I maintain that Black Jesus is underrated as fuck. Bong.

Mark Morrison, Beanie Man, Keith Murray, Black Rob & Crooked I “Father Forgive Them”

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Quite an oddity right here. If you can get through Beanie Man’s bullshit, everyone delivers a solid but short verse with Black Rob stealing the show. Very strange stuff though. People still bitching about NYC rap need to support Black Rob by the way.

Cam’ron “Wanna Get”

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Now this is the Cam’ron that we all know and love. He feels much more at home over some Rose Royce shit than the spastic wanna be Heatmakerz drums of some pimply Serbian immigrant in his parent’s basement in Oyster Bay who buys ecstacy from Cam’s accountant’s son. Thank God.

Nutso ft. Tony Yayo & Maino “Pockets On Swole”

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Nutso fka Nutrageous continues to put together NYC Khaled style dream team tracks. His last (dope) single featured Mic Geronimo and Royal Flush and here he grabs verses from two of NYC’s current luminaries for this 50-sampling jammie that is bomb-drop ready with a turn of the century NYC posse cut feel.
