Ace B acts/raps as Lil Calliope on Treme. He put out a fantastic mixtape last year called Da Expiration. While the rest of his Sup Crew are pretty good (Rodney Ra especially), he is the clear star.

Semi-new visualz from Kwame, who when I sit down and think about might be my favorite rapper in New Orleans right now (I’ve been on a huge Shawt kick lately though). That 80′s Babies project he put out with B.G. has never really left the rotation and has become somewhat of a personal classic for this guy. Gates just effortlessly dominates everything he does. His recent flirtations with Jetstyle with The Rap Pack have been nothing less than fantastic.
Hit the jump to catch up with the last few months of Gatesness including The Rap Pack album and K’s jam with Lil B…

KLC’s buddy Calicoe is pretty talented and well worth checking out. KLC calls in favors for him all the time too. Actually now that I think about it, I wouldn’t be shocked if these were just canned verses that KLC had in the vault (Fiend shouts out Ruff Ryders, so yea). Either way, both of these songs jam with vigor.
These tracks stem from Calicoe’s new Grand Theft Audio, which is totally sweet. Check out Calicoe and KLC’s Groundhog Day too.
I’ont Hide ft. Fiend, Mr. Serv-On and Mia X

SB has been all about Surf Club since we had the old website. This feels good. Chase N. Cashe is easily one of my favorite young producers doing it right now and track by track he has grown by leaps and bounds as an emcee. This is a really good song, especially as an album intro… BUT… I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HEAR CHILI CHIL OVER THIS BEAT. GOD DAMN. Beautiful video, by the way.
Gumbeaux is going to be thee shit.
Wasn’t a fan of the chorus the first time through, but I was digging it hard by the end of the jam. This is from Fendi P, which you can download here. It features the whole Iron Jets Gang, N.O. faves Calliope Var and Skip, Tyga and The Show, who at one point was Mannie’s next big thing. P has enough style to work as a solo artist, but his chemistry with Fiend has been undeniable since the late whomp whomp days. People digging what these guys are up to now really should check out Fiend’s The Addiction.
Lexx is deeply commited to that turn of the century post-Jay, pre-50 NYC sound, and I deeply appreciate him for it. His “80′s Baby” and “Krazy Brazy” got some spins on Hot 97 a few years back, he was doing songs with Game and Sticky Fingaz and looking like the next big unsigned hype and then I pretty much lost track of him. Making a comeback with a Chase N. Cashe beat is just about the best way to do it. They style remains the same and Queens remains victorious.
