Mr. Magic is back and going fully dumb way. Thuggin is still my shit.

DJ Legend ft. Chase N. Cashe, Tone Trump & Tommy Stars “Round Every Corner”

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Chase hooks up with some Philly bros for this highly enjoyable throwback jammer. As far as Petula Clark bangerz go, “Round Every Corner” > “Downtown”, yo. I’m going to have to look into these Philly dudes. Tone sounds great and wasn’t Tommy Stars on a few D-Block songs?

Sqad Up 3.0

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

A full on official Sqad Up reunion is probably never going to happen, but T. Streets is trying to recapture a bit of the magic on The Streets Is Watching with some actual success. Wayne is auto-tuned for most of these verses so its hard to tell how new they are, but he crushes in pre-jail form. “Love of My Life” is the only track actually tagged as a Sqad Up freestyle… but its from 2003. I’d still love to see Streets, Wayne, Mack Main, Short Dawg. Millz and Gutta (Nutt may be too much to ask) do a full tape, leaving the other YM kiddies on the bench, but in the meantime, this thing is a good time.

Chase N. Cashe “Show Love” / Chili Chil & Mannix “White Cup”

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

First things first: If you don’t have Gumbeaux in your Top 10 albums of the first half of 2011, you are foolish. Easily the best-produced album I’ve heard all year.

“Show Love” is produced by G.Ry and may or may not be on the forthcoming Louisiana Purchase. The chorus is generic, but everything else here is quite fire.

THIS. There really isn’t more that I can say about Chil that I haven’t been saying for years. DJ FU’s beat here is lavish as fuck.

Extra shout out to Hit-Boy for landing a track on Watch The Throne.

Master P “Meagan Good”

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Here at SteadyBloggin we fully support Master P (aka Monstahh) and his Now Limit Forever movement. Not joking. I am really excited about No Limit albums being a thing again, and the Get Money movie with P and Gucci should be phenomenal.

“Meagan Good” would maybe fit in on the radio and isn’t half bad for a song designed specifically for that purpose. Romeo still needs to not be around though (no Casey Anthony).

Big Mike & Chamillionaire “Heat”

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Great new shit from a guy who has been out of the spotlight for way too long. Well, two guys who have been out of the spotlight for way too long. I love Cham back in the hook/one verse lane and Mike slaughters his second verse here. This is just so comfortable. Bayou Classic should be cool as hell.

VIDEO: Ace B “No Hook”

Monday, June 20th, 2011

Ace B acts/raps as Lil Calliope on Treme. He put out a fantastic mixtape last year called Da Expiration. While the rest of his Sup Crew are pretty good (Rodney Ra especially), he is the clear star.

VIDEO: K. Gates “Purple Label” (And More!)

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Semi-new visualz from Kwame, who when I sit down and think about might be my favorite rapper in New Orleans right now (I’ve been on a huge Shawt kick lately though). That 80′s Babies project he put out with B.G. has never really left the rotation and has become somewhat of a personal classic for this guy. Gates just effortlessly dominates everything he does. His recent flirtations with Jetstyle with The Rap Pack have been nothing less than fantastic.

Hit the jump to catch up with the last few months of Gatesness including The Rap Pack album and K’s jam with Lil B…

Calicoe The Champ Does It Right

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

KLC’s buddy Calicoe is pretty talented and well worth checking out. KLC calls in favors for him all the time too. Actually now that I think about it, I wouldn’t be shocked if these were just canned verses that KLC had in the vault (Fiend shouts out Ruff Ryders, so yea). Either way, both of these songs jam with vigor.

These tracks stem from Calicoe’s new Grand Theft Audio, which is totally sweet. Check out Calicoe and KLC’s Groundhog Day too.

I’ont Hide ft. Fiend, Mr. Serv-On and Mia X
