MarQ Spekt & Kno – MacheteVision (Album)

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Considering our past history with Spekt, offering an objective take on this album is impossible. So here’s an entirely subjective one – this might be the album I’ve been waiting to hear from Spekt for as long as I’ve been aware of him. He has come close before, made some very good tracks, but never to the level we see here. Many will undoubtedly check this for Kno’s production and that’s fine, it’s good to have a familiar anchor when venturing into new territory. As strong as the beats are though, they are not the main draw here. Spekt’s bars are the star of the show, through and through. Their content is dense and I’m sure there will be much to find that wasn’t apparent on first listen. But the strength and fluidity of his flow are immediately obvious. I’ve said for ages that Spekt is an underrated talent, this album goes above and beyond to justify that claim.

Marq Spekt & Kno – All Smiles (Plastic Mask)

Roadhouse was pretty good, this one is even better. Spekt steps things up with what may be some of his best writing to date delivered in breathless fluid verses, and Kno gives a beauty of a beat to match.

This is from the Recession Proof sampler that came out a few weeks before the album dropped. Drug rapz over a dope Kno/Cunninglynguists beat. If you haven’t heard Recession Proof yet, you are missing out on one of last year’s finest

CunninLynguists – Running Wild feat. Evidence & E-40

Monday, October 12th, 2009

All I know is they did a track with Freddie Gibbs who is equitant to the Blu of the blogs in 2009. They’re killing the collabo game now and finally getting the props they deserve.

Produced by Kno and featuring emcees Natti and Deacon The Villain trading verses with Evidence of Dilated Peoples and Bay Area legend E-40 about society’s uptick in chaos and violence, CunninLynguists‘ “Running Wild” is the official first single from Strange Journey Volume Two, the second installment of this year’s double release from the trio.

CunninLynguists’ newest project, Strange Journey Volume Two, is set to be released on November 3rd. Guests include Sean Price, Tonedeff, Geologic of Blue Scholars, Freddie Gibbs, Substantial, Poison Pen and more with production from J-Zone and Blue Sky Black Death.

Similar to Volume One, Strange Journey Volume Two is also almost entirely produced by Kno and features 70+ minutes of brand new music. The trio will be supporting the release by embarking on a 28 city tour starting November 10th.
