This was my most wanted audio of all the Pitchfork Selector freestyles, I just couldn’t figure out how to rip it right. It’s not only my favorite of the series, I also prefer it to the original Jealous Guys version of the song. Luckily Pitchfork just released the audio for all the Selector Freestyles in one handy compilation, which you can download HERE. The Clipse/DOOM freestyle on there is also highly recommended, even though its just a rehash of well worn verses.
Big Sid is the newest Swisha House guy. His Music, Money and Motivation just came out. He has a song with Killer Mike. Mike kinda kills it. Big Sid is pretty damn nice with it. With a Fam 420 album on the way, Watts & Co. should have a good year.
Just a short snippet, hopefully more will materialize soon.
What’s really cool about this, aside from the music itself, is that after a very long career of working almost exclusively within a mostly closed circle of friends/co-conspirators, El-P is finally turning his talents toward a wider area of possible collaboration. Aside from Killer Mike, work with both Big Boi and Yelawolf has been hinted at via twitter and hopefully there will be more. Consider Freeway’s EMG freestyle as another example of the possibility at hand. Hypothetically speaking – a producer driver album ala Pete Rock’s Soul Survivor series or Doom’s King Gheedora, featuring a mix of established affiliates like Aesop and Breeze Brewin with newer acquaintances like the ones mentioned above – that could be great.
While we don’t normally post some of the more heavily trodden blog fodder, I have to post this here for a few reasons. Emilio Rojas fka Raks One fka Sycorax One (HHI/SoundCircuit days) is from Rochester, NY (as is Green Lantern) and I am obligated to show some hometown pride, Killer Mike rips this shit and it appears on a mixtape named after the single greatest public access television show ever produced. Rojas is a pretty good rapper. He’s come along way from the skinny dreadlocked kid freestyling outside of downtown coffee shops. He is doing songs with Killer Mike.
More important than the music (this song is nice, but sorry), is the acknowledgment of Life Without Shame. Anyone over the age of 25 from Rochester who was even remotely cool was forever changed by the show. It started out as a simple, fun hour promoting local titty joints and ended as a First Amendment martyr. Bum Olympics, entire episodes promoting escort services, stripper brawls and pepperoni-covered nipples. I’m sure no one cares about this, but here are the opening credits:
