I sometimes hesitate to post H3VTH CVR1NG’s mixes because they always include 1 or 2 songs that I absolutely hate. That’s actually the case here as well, in the midpoint there is an R&B song (by Jeremih I think) that completely took me out of pocket. But I have to give credit where it’s due, aside from that one lapse this is an excellent mix.

A while ago I posted a C&S rework of Toro Y Moi by Kp’Da Truth, and I described it as vaguely reminiscent of a lost 70s psychedelic experiment. This one is something different. Instead of simply slowing up and cutting up the source material song by song, H3VTH CVR1NG create a proper mixtape experience. Screwed Toro songs are not just the end onto themselves here, they’re the foundation anchoring an ambitions sonic collage where dreamy psychedelia, UGK verses and dialogue from Star Trek: TNG go hand in hand like it’s the most natural thing in the world. The minds behind this are clearly apt students of DJ Screw but they’re not content to simply replicate or pay homage to his techniques. Instead they take his ques and run with them in new and imaginative directions. And for that I can excuse the inclusion of some corny R&B.

H3VTH CVR1NG makes a neat chopped & screwed bootleg instrumetnal mashup thingy out of a sad song I don’t recognize and an aptly chosen snippet from Rawsse’s ‘You The Boss’, then drops in the Stark words like an exclamation point.

I still think most Starks are bitchmade though. Jon Snow is the fucking worst.

Choice bits of Pink Floyd’s The Wall, screwed down and mixed with bits of rap (the turn into Ice Cube’s verse from ‘Color Blind’ is particularly impressive). An interesting, impressively executed idea that almost made my day 100% but stumbled at the regrettable inclusion of that cringe-worthy Drake song. Granted, the Drake part only takes 2 minutes of 26 minute running time, and the rest of this is great, but I just have a hard time stomaching his shit for any period of time at all.
