Best Albums of the 2000s

2000

While most of these lame ass blogs were rushing their “best of…” lists in the final months of 2009, I kept mine on ice. You know, just in case Detox 2 was to secure a prosperous December 31st release date or something. But now that the 00s are a distant memory of crunk, emo and rappers not wanting to be rappers, it’s the perfect time to take a hindsight look over the best 5 releases of the decade.

Please note: the opinions herein do not represent a consensus from Steady Bloggin’. Nay, it’s just me bluffing my way through 10 years of hip-hop history and pretending to know things through a delicate mixture of disjointed hyperbole, speculative thought and advanced cliche. Enjoy!

Oh, you didn’t know? Sage Francis is Satan!

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

There is a lot of shit happening here. Marilyn Manson, Lady Gaga, Satanism, the “All Seeing Eye of Lucifer”, Masonic patterns in imagery etc. If Satan returned to earth in physical form, why choose a fat, vegan indie rapper? Wouldn’t Ghostface Killah or Justin Tiimberlake be a funner time???

Diddy Would ‘Love’ To Reunite With The LOX and sign Raekwon and Ghostface Killah.

MTV Shows

People have been talking about Diddy and Mase reuniting ever since an online video surfaced in which the Harlem MC said he was coming from a meeting with the Bad Boy head honcho. But a different reunion might be going down between Diddy and one of his other acts.

“I would definitely love to do the next LOX album,” he told Mixtape Daily recently in Los Angeles. “I would love to collaborate with them. I think it’s important just to do. … I would look forward to it.”

Puff and the Warlocks together again? That would be big news for New York. The two factions were at odds for years before eventually patching things up. Jadakiss has openly discussed the possibilities in the past, but nothing has ever come out of it.

Now, with the Yonkers trio and Diddy both aligned under the Interscope umbrella, it sounds like things could be happening soon.

“We been talking about it,” Diddy revealed. “We have to sit down and have a real meeting about it.”

The ink on Diddy’s new deal for Bad Boy with Interscope is still drying, but he’s hard at work managing projects between the ‘Scope and Atlantic, where a handful of his artists, including Cassie and Day26, still reside.

Acquisitions were on Diddy’s mind, as he spoke about Raekwon’s previous comments about him trying to sign the Cuban Linx rapper and Ghostface. But Diddy has too much unfinished business to handle, not to mention putting the finishing touches on his next album, before he recruits anyone into the fold. So any future plans may have to wait.

“I’ve always been a fan of Raekwon and Ghostface and Wu-Tang,” Diddy explained. “To be honest, I don’t know what the future holds for Bad Boy/ Interscope. I wanna take it day by day and get acquainted. The first move now is to get out this Dirty Money album, The Last Train to Paris. We gonna focus on that. Cassie has a new single, we’re gonna focus on that. Day26, we still in business with Atlantic, we’re gonna see that all the way through. We still have some unfinished business we have to take care of before we get into the future.”

Every Friday I send a few friends a new mix I either found or made. I know, it’s kind of gay, but whatever it gets conversations started and keeps friends that are scattered around the country in contact with each other. Dearest Ghostface Killah aka Ghostdini aka Tony Starks,

What happened in between:

and:

On behalf of the Steady Bloggin’ team, I ask: Rap or retire?

Peace,
Employee

P.S.: This comes from Steady Bloggin’s own Suge Knight himself, Mr. PhilaFlava -

“At first Dennis is gonna HATE us but after the smoke is clear he’ll thank us.

The man who saved the Wu and possibly hip-hop for many of us has gone a different direction. Who can blame him? Def Jam was suppose to take him to the next level but despite releasing 4 albums, this will be his 5th, he hasn’t had the same success since his Epic days. There hasn’t been an album comparable to either Ironman or Supreme Clientele. That’s not to say PTA or Fishscale didn’t have its moments. In retrospect, you could make an argument for those being the top album of their respective years. Still, Ghost needs to eat and who are we to stop him?

The problem is Dennis Coles is approaching 40 soon and there is no telling how much is left in the tank. Discouraging sales after sales can really take a toll and even though he can cake off the Wu catalog or catch a gig with his infectious charm, the fact remains Ghostface Killah took a turn for the worst sometime ago.

Nobody from his core wants to hear “The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City” and nobody outside of it will care to hear a 39 something rapper do Al Green.

This album will most definitely tank. It will been non-existent on any chart and practically unheard on most airwaves. It’ll be yet another Ghostface Killah effort that falls short. We know he still has it because heard OB4CL II but the question is when will Ghost do Ghost on Ghost album. Rap or retire?”
