A new G-Mane EP, this one with a socially concsious theme reminiscent of his old work with Slave Kamp. ‘The Beast’ should be 3 times longer, and ‘Thankful’ is the coldest jam of the day.

G-Mane – Mark Of The Beast (EP)
Monday, January 16th, 2012VIDEO: GMane – Light Up
Thursday, April 7th, 2011This track is from Sunday On The Porch, which still holds up remarkably well after a year +. It might actually be my favorite GMane album to date, MAYBE. You can download it here.

G-Mane – High
Tuesday, March 15th, 2011GMane – Collector’s Item (album) / Slave Kamp – A Day in the Death of Amerikkka (album)
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011
Two albums worth of old school GMane, available now for the first time in digital form via the AHU Bandcamp.
Slave Kamp was GMane’s first group, “A Day in the Death of Amerikkka” is their debut from 1996. It’s a time capsule of sorts, a strong example of politically/socially charged southern 90s rap but also very much of its time in sound and general attitude. The influences of Texas, ATL and Memphis scenes are evident without being too overpowering, their combination mostly hits the right notes. This is actually a concept album, there is an ongoing narrative of a traffic stop turning into street riot. Fitting with this story, young GMane, then going by GMan, adopts an angrier and more aggressive attitude here than what we’re used to from his current more relaxed incarnation.
“Collector’s Item”, released in 2000, might be GMane’s first solo release. As evidenced by the cover you see at the top of the post, this is GMane (still GMan actually) closer to how we know him today. His styleis not quite as polished on this as it is now, but it’s clearly there.
G-Side – The One… Cohesive Album Commercial #3 + Best 2010 Tracks
Wednesday, December 22nd, 20101.1.11 #3 from Lawrence and Clark on Vimeo.
Final (and best yet) commercial before the rapidly approaching and highly anticipated 1.1.11 release date. If you missed the previous two commercials you can see them on Lawrence and Clark’s vimeo page here.
As a refresher, I put together a brief collection of my favorite G-Side songs released in 2010. I purposefully left off all remixes, ST and Clova solos and group guest appearances – the 6 songs included are (imo) the pure distillation of what the group had to offer this year as a representation of their unique aesthetic. THESE are why I’m looking forward to their next album.
Included are:
G-Side – Dreamz
G-Side – Impossible ft Geographer & Jhi Ali
G-Side – Money In The Sky ft Chris Lee
G-Side – Back 2 Tha Future
G-Side – #ImSorry (only a tagged mixtape version was released, #ImSorry)
G-Side – Relaxin ft GMane
GMane – Late night creep ft Swagzilla (prod by DJ Sizahanz)
Thursday, November 4th, 2010It’s the middle of the night, werewolves are out, carriages are turning into pumpkins, and Gmane is smashing your chick on some gangsta Barry White shit. Meanwhile elsewhere Zilla is pulling mother-daughter threesomes. And you don’t even wanna know what @ALJunebug is doing.

Sidenote, DJ Sizahanz got some good shit. He does well here, he did well on Somebody, and a couple of his productions that popped up on BLVDST were solid too.
DJ Burn One – Bobby Cox
Tuesday, October 19th, 2010This is taken from the Are You Listening? mixtape, which was put together by DJ Burn One and DJBooth.net to to promote the upcoming CMJ showcase of the same name. There’s lots of interesting stuff on there which I have yet to go through, but the thing that had me click on ‘download’ immediately was this solo track by Burn One himself.
The man has been on a hell of a streak lately, lending his touch to some of the better mixtapes/street albums in recent memory (check out his collaborations with Gmane, Starlito, Yelawolf, G-Side, Pill, just to name a few..) His productions have a distinct personality, occasionally even overpowering the rappers they feature. Which is exactly why him going the solo instrumental route makes shittons of sense. His previous tentative steps in this direction worked really well – see Smoke Break 2 linked below, taken GMane’s Sunday On Da Porch.
Anyway, I’ve had the track on repeat all day and I don’t want to suck the life out of it with the usual ‘sounds like this and that’. Instead I’m going to appropriate ‘trillwave‘, a previously misused term much in need of re-branding. My version of trillwave is the sound of Pimp C going really fast in a cigarette boat to meet Lee Van Cleef on Lost island for a Mexican standoff at sunset. A bunch of Andy Sidaris regulars are in tow riding jet skis or possibly sharks. That’s what this sounds like. Deal with it.

I’m pretty sure Burn One has and all instrumental album in the works called The Ashtray, hopefully it’ll sound something like these tracks above.
Alabama Hustlaz vol.3 – Ca$h Is King (mixtape)
Wednesday, October 6th, 2010Here’s another good compilation of recent Alabama music, this one presented by GMane/Alabama Hustle Unit. Props to them for including the one really weird Yelawolf song, I’m a big fan of that one + it just seems like a pleasantly left field choice in this particular context. There are a couple of new (to me at least) songs on here too, I think I’m liking the PT/GMane/Lyrix song the most out of those so it gets a separate individual link.
