Dam-Funk space-jammin live with Master Blazter. The best shows I’ve seen him do were with these guys – Dam is good solo but with the backing of his band the proceedings intensify to something approaching live P-Funk levels.
A few years ago a homeless man named “Red” caught the attention of innanetz. You had Dam-Funk remixing his shit all the way to CHOPS. Most recently Cam’Ron holla’d at him, but Red and his career ultimately went nowhere.
Now I present to you the 2011 version of Red. SOMEBODY needs to make sure this guy records something, even if it’s just intros and outros on the next Blueprint album.
Nice video, reminiscent of Madlib’s old video for Slim’s Return. Dam’s video is far less stylized which gives it a more intimate feel, but both pursue the same central theme of presenting the artist’s own music as an integral and inseparable part of their daily existence.
Just how many more of these can we cram in before the official end of summer on September 21st? Let’s get to 10 while the weather is right, starting with the seventh installment of the SLS series. Somethin’ for your car, somethin’ for your hangout spot, or just somethin’ for you to chill to. Hella shouts to dirt_dog from TROY for the artwork. Here we have the first taste of the much lauded collaboration between Dam-Funk and former Slave frontman/all around 80s funk powerhouse Steve Arrington. It’s as good as I expected it to be, this pairing just makes too much sense to yield a bad result. I was hoping for maybe something bit more spacey ala Dam’s solo work, but that’s really a minor gripe. This album is now officially upgraded from ‘anticipated’ to ‘can’t wait for this shit to drop’ (hopefully it won’t be too stingy on the keytar solos.) Extra thought.. Arrington singing on a Master Blazter song would be epic.

As we continue on into one-a-week territory, lets ignore the back to school ads which usually signal the end of summer with our fifth installment in the SLS series. Somethin’ for your car, somethin’ for your hangout spot, or just somethin’ for you to chill to. Hella shouts to dirt_dog from TROY for the artwork. Over the past month Dam-Funk has been sharing a few previously unreleased tracks via his soundcloud page. You can stream them below. The individual pages for each song also give some additional info on where they came from and how they were made.
Oh shit, I’ve been waiting for this one since I saw them do it live a few months ago. I wish Eiht had more than one verse, but this will do. The song will be officially released on the Hood Pass Intact 12″, which will also give us the first taste of Dam’s much anticipated collaboration with Steve Arrington.
As we continue on, our Sounds Like Summer series adds another volume while the humidex/heat index pushes past 100 in the north east. Somethin’ for your car, somethin’ for your hangout spot, or just somethin’ for you to chill to. Hella shouts to dirt_dog from TROY for the artwork.
