Before the MTV antics. Before the bald chick. Before the Roc-a-fella implosion. Even before “Slow Jamz.” There was a producer from Chicago desperate for validation as an emcee. Riding high off the buzz from his beatwork on The Blueprint, ‘Ye parlayed his rep into some mixtape appearances and dub spots, climaxing with his own 2003 tape I’m Good. I was reminded of these when putting together the Saigon collection, funny how time flies and styles evolve. These rhymes were the genesis of Kanye’s half witty, half cringe worthy couplets. In line with his academic schtick, we’ll call these the Lunch Room Freestyles. Let’s get it.
