Random Throwback: Tragedy – World Wide Thugs Ft. Cam’ron, RZA and Killa Sha

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Not a particularly obscure or rare track, I’ve just been obsessing over it for the past 24hrs after randomly coming across it on an old hard drive. It’s a strong posse cut as a whole (in a ’4 random unrelated verses thrown on the same beat’ kind of way), but RZA’s turn in particular is just ridiculous (#Wu-bias). It plays out like a checklist of everything that makes his best rapping moments so entertaining – nonsensical stream of consciousness non sequiturs, angel dust, very nerdy very specific kung fu movie references, third person braggadocio, vague spiritualism in service of creating self aggrandizing mythology, etc. Peach cobbler rap indeed… it may actually be his strongest guest feature, at least outside of the explicit Wu continuum. FYI, turns out Siberian Panex is some kind of ginseng.

Cam’ron & Kanye West – That 1970s Heroin Flow (Compilation by HHIR)

Very nice little comp by Hip Hop Is Read. Ivan apparently shares my opinion regarding Kanye doing some of his best work with Cam, props and thanks to him for putting this together.

Canibus – Best of ’97-2000

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

The best freestyler on the planet. The 2nd 3rd coming of Rakim. The future of hip-hop. He was anointed as them all, and yet as meteoric as Canibus’ rise was, his fall was just as swift. A mixtape phenom, he went from lacing Tony Touch and DJ Clue to collaborating almost exclusively with Myspace rappers on their latest internet-only projects. His career decisions and ultimate downfall may have been disappointing, but they do nothing to tarnish the heights of his apex. In his prime, Canibus was an undisputed animal on the mic. His scientific style, fueled by a swift delivery, made him the standout on almost any track he appeared on, much to the fascination of both fans and peers. Frequently he’d take over songs, rhyming for twice as long as everyone else with double the ferocity, and listeners loved every bar of it.

Cam’ron & Vado “Lights, Camera, Action”

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

I would never have guessed that the usually stuck in shitty Heatmakerz imitation mode AraabMuzik could make a beat like this. That bass line is nuts. Gotta love the lack of shrieks and rocket sounds too. Gunz N’ Butta, which is 100% awesome despite Araab’s efforts to make it sound like a Whoo Kid mixtape, is officially my first 2011 summer album.

Blueprint you need to holla at this man…

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

A few years ago a homeless man named “Red” caught the attention of innanetz. You had Dam-Funk remixing his shit all the way to CHOPS. Most recently Cam’Ron holla’d at him, but Red and his career ultimately went nowhere.

Now I present to you the 2011 version of Red. SOMEBODY needs to make sure this guy records something, even if it’s just intros and outros on the next Blueprint album.

Cam’ron “Wanna Get”

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Now this is the Cam’ron that we all know and love. He feels much more at home over some Rose Royce shit than the spastic wanna be Heatmakerz drums of some pimply Serbian immigrant in his parent’s basement in Oyster Bay who buys ecstacy from Cam’s accountant’s son. Thank God.

Clip from the upcoming Max B. documentary

Monday, April 19th, 2010

What’s next? Katie Couric in depth, one-on-one with fans and Cam’s testicles? The world needs a Max B. documentary like it needs another blog post from me. GTFO.

Peace,
Employee

These are my thoughts, yo!

No links. No embedded clips. These are just my thoughts, yo! –Philaflava

(Amerie has noting to do with this post. I just like to look at her)

10. This years version of Blu (every blogs favorite rapper) is Freddie Gibbs. Pill made noise too but he’ll probably be next years Freddie Gibbs once the others catch on.

09. Cam’Ron better bring it this year and stop being chintzy with beats. Nobody wants to hear him rap over generic beats again. Save that for Hell Rell.

08. Anyone else feel bad that Dres from Black Sheep now has to go by “Black Sheep Dres” to make a comeback? Sad when you think about it. Remember when Blahzay Blahzay’s OutLoud tried to make a comeback a few years ago and renamed himself “Blahzay Blah?”

07. Rappers should take cues from MF Doom. Don’t Seth Rogen yourself. Disappear for a few years and then comeback with heat.

06. Ras Kass just doesn’t get it. He never will.

05. If Gang Starr is never going to happen can Premier at least link up with somebody that won’t waste his beats? How about an entire album with Devin The Dude or even Cormega?

04. Jadakiss will never drop an album that matches his potential. He will always be a guest appearance guy.

03. Tiger Woods will be the most name-dropped athlete in 2010 and if I was a betting man Budden will probably reference him first.

02. The new Clipse album Til the Casket Drops is not that good. It contains unnecessary hooks, dumb downed lyrics and Timberland knock-off beats. Rick Rubin never would have allowed this album to come out. Pharrell did not bring it, Khalil did.

01. For a guy who hasn’t dropped an album in years, it’s pretty impressive that Big Boi has managed to make the best songs for the last two years (Royal Flush, Shine Blockas, Fo Yo Sorrows)

You got 10 random thoughts? Drop it in the comment section.

And don’t forget to vote for Rapper of The Year.
