Breeze Brewin – Road Rage

Brewin using the concept of ‘road rage’ to ruminate on dealing with life’s daily obstacles. If you ride the subway in NY frequently, the section with the subway dancers will hit home pretty hard.
BTW in the bigger picture, Brewin’s recent random song drops, even though not exactly numerous, still represent the most prolific period in his music career in quite some time. Dare we hope actually for a release of a several songs packaged together in some organized form in the near future?

Out of nowhere, a nice little verse from Breeze. Interesting moment at 1.22 in – Breeze promises ‘something for ’em’, implying a release, but the actual date is blanked out. All you hear is ’31st’. So either this is an old song meant to promote something that never dropped, OR…. Would be a pretty great surprise if it was the latter.

Breeze Brewin – Breeze In Control

Control responces were predictably played out before they started, but still… Brewin.
This has been out all day and you’ve probably heard this alreay, but still… Brewin.
I’d rather his rap just to make music, without this kind of context, but still… Brewin.
Brewin is our [backpacker] generation’s real life equivalent of ‘HE MADE THRILLER… THRILLER‘. He made Generally… General Lee.

Breeze is one of my personal favorites, a greatly talented rapper who I consider to be one of the best of his generation, always one of my first answers to the question of ‘most underrated.’ I’m not alone in this, his incredible early work and elusiveness in recent years has earned him a well deserved cult following among like-minded fans. So I’m very excited to debut this new track, a collaboration with the Parallel Thought production duo. It serves as the first single to Parallel Thought’s upcoming album The Art Of Sound, which will be released on July 24th.

Many thanks to Parallel Thought and Breeze for letting me drop this one.

Breezly Brewin & Tame One – Slick Talkin / Fried Fish (Ft. Cage)

Weathermen’s The Conspiracy mixtape always hung in a weird limbo. At the time of its release in 2003, in the final sunset hours of the backpack era, many among the target audience were confused and appalled by the thought of their favorite underground heroes rapping over instrumentals concocted in the commercial realm (and thus explicitly off limits to any troo backpakaz.) These days many of these same naysayers have completely broken away from their Rawkus-era affiliations, often if favor of the same rap styles they used to hate in the past. They can only acknowledge the compilation’s existence tentatively, maybe as an addendum to greater appreciation of other more critically favorable music from the same period.
Perhaps I’m being too harsh, as objectively speaking some the songs included have not aged well. In retrospect, some were not great to begin with. The currently embarrassing public images and career developments of several featured artists certainly don’t help. That might sound superficial, but a shitty present tends to put a shitty tint on the past. If there was more El-P, Camu and Brewin in there instead of Copywrite, The Conspiracy might have fared better. But all that aside, there are some things here that are really worth revisiting.

The song itself is about 2 years old (it’s from The Application Maxi Single), but the video seems new and any new Brewin is a good thing. Hopefully that means there will finally be a full length Breeze solo sometime soon.
