VIDEO: Young Bleed “Holla At Uh Dog”

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

In a perfect world Sean P and Big Boi would pop up on a remix of this chunk of swamped out gumbo funk triumph. Instead, Bleed’s new album is coming out in October on Tech N9ne’s label of accumulated questionability (how the fuck is someone allowed to be named Kutt Calhoun and trick me every fucking time he puts something out). I’ll take it though, ’cause this is a really super jam.

VIDEO: Foxx “They Say”

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

With Foxx dropping stellar unabashed drug jammies like this, Trill Ent. is not going anywhere. I would absolutely love to someday get a full Foxx/Boosie album, but I would also have loved for Steven Seagal to have been the star of Taken…

Max Minelli ‘California Dreams’

Friday, June 10th, 2011

FINALLY. I’m pretty sure we posted a leak from this on the old SB (which feels like decades ago). Yup. I know for sure I mentioned it here… in October… of 2009. As a West Coast counterpart to the superb Backpack Dreams and Hip Hop Wishes, California Dreams further exemplifies Max’s impeccable taste in beats. 2 years feels like ages in internet/rap time, but this is well worth the wait.

Enjoy

Props to our country cousins over at DGB

3. One Love (Feat. Locco)
4. How Deep Is Your Love (Feat. Lil’ Quick)
5. Something Out Of Nothing (Prod. Phunk Dawg)
6. Paid My Dues
7. Gin In My Cup (Feat. Bad Azz Ent & Big Poppa)
8. Primetime (Feat. Leechie)
9. Cartoon (Feat. Mouse On Tha Track & Shell)
10. Gone But Not Forgotten (Prod. Big Wayne)
11. Niggas Ain’t Shit
12. Got You Where I Want You (Feat. Lola Monroe)
13. Fuck Em’ All (Prod. Big Wayne)

Visuals for one of Pain Medicine’s best tracks. Where the hell is that Cali mixtape?

Lil Boosie in Ratchet City

boosie

As the fellas at DGB took a couple trips down Lil Boosie memory lane, I was reminded of how largely skipped-over his brief association with Shreveport, LA’s Lava House Records is in the internet’s annals.

Mr. Mandingo, Angie Locc, Phunk Dawg, Bigg Pappa and Untame Mayne put out some solid jams in the late 90s and early 21st century, with 99′s “Da Ratchet” catching on as a micro-regional hit, but it took Boosie’s version a few years later for the song to become a bona fide Louisiana radio monster.

Street Tapes Vol. 1 not only chronicles the development of “Da Ratchet”, but provides us with some rarely heard songs from Boosie, Webbie and Hurricane Chris. As these songs are a lot more raw than their later work, fans of the Trill guys will love this stuff.

Finally. Kevin is currently locked up and there is a rumor floating around that he won’t be getting out anytime soon. Hopefully it’s just a rumor. I still maintain that New Orleans’ K. Gates is the better K. Gates, but Kevin consistently rips tracks to shreds. He can satisfy both the hardest wanna be trapster and the lyrical miracles simultaneously… II … While this is certainly a solid release, a bunch of these songs have been floating around for a while. The track with Nu$$ie is quite nice.  RIP. Hopefully there is more new material on the way…

Max Minelli ‘Pre-Med’ EP

Pre-Pain Medicine music from one of Baton Rouge’s finest. Happy Perez supplies some fantastic beats here and Max rips the shit out of them. I think I may be looking forward to California Dreamin’ more than the actual album though.
