Ricky Eat Acid ‘Haunt U Forever’

Friday, July 8th, 2011

I don’t know what super-specific sub-genre of instrumental music this falls into (thankfully), but this shit knocks. Crunchy, lo-fi, minimalist rawness coming out of Baltimore. There is a ton of music on the bandcamp page. Pretty cool stuff that is begging to be rapped over.

Shitty weather/Monday appropriate. The songs are taken from last year’s Deeper Than Dirt album, which is consistent with what you get in the vid.

Ellis and Legin presents… The Essence

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

I’m digging this mixtape, a collaboration between Baltimore’s MC Ellis and producer Legin. Good raps, good production, taking all the right ques from obvious 90s east coast inspirations. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but I feel the good greatly outweighs the bad. The three songs below should do the trick of convincing you to give this a try. “Magic” especially, the sax is at ‘Sade in a tub of butter’ levels of smoothness. “Hardcore” was posted here previously, that’s actually the song that got me interested.

baltimore oriole

These guys used to strongly dislike eachother. Very cool song if you have paid attention to the non-Club B’more scene. The original track wasn’t anything special, but this is huge more for the pairing than anything else. The back and forth third verse is pretty epic. Baltimore street rap certainly deserves more of our attention. Bookmark Govt Names and get up.
