A League of Our Own Vol. 3: RAPPERS WANTED

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Philaflava, parent company aka The RZA of both T.R.O.Y. and Steady Bloggin‘ put out two compilations called A League of Our Own. Vol. 1 dropped in ’02 with the help of Abby1ill and Vol. 2 came out in ’04 on Vintage Music.

Volume 1 featured exclusive material from King Tee, O.C., Talib Kweli, Royce Da 5’9, and Devin The Dude just to name a few. We secured tracks with production from J Dilla, Jake One, Pete Rock all the way to Kanye West. These were EXCLUSIVE tracks for our compilation. The purpose was to showcase talent and bring awareness to all parties involved.

In ’04 we did it again and while it’s no secret that trying to make a profit, let alone break even on CD pressings these days are practically impossible, it’s even more impossible when the album be a compilation. I decided Vol. 3 will only be available online (at this time.) This isn’t about any monetary gain; it’s about the passion and exposing good music.

I started out with so many underground/indie people and I’ve seen most of them fade away. Many retired, some still grindin’ and others flat out broke. The passion remains though. So after 7 years I’ve decided to do it again with Volume 3.

We’re looking for talent to showcase. If you’re interested in submitting material for this project please let us know via email. We’re targeting an April release date so everyone should have plenty of time to cook something up. Peace to Open Mike Eagle, MF Grimm, Meyhem Lauren, Action Bronson, DMV All-Stars and Praverb for all showing support so far. We’d like to make this as diverse as possible and we can only do that with your help! –Philaflava

Black Milk & Freddie Gibbs Come to NY’s Home of Hip-Hop, SOBs, – August 3rd A tornado of true, eclectic hip hop is coming in from the Midwest to S.O.B.’s on August 3rd. Please join us as we tear up a Tuesday night with Black Milk & Freddie Gibbs. Hailing from Detroit Michigan, Black Milk brings the funk and soul to Hip Hop that most artists and producers strive for but cannot obtain. In 2004, he released his first album Sound Of The City, Vol. 1 on Fat Beats Records, which was given much praise. Now in 2010, Black Milk, through twitter, has announced that his forthcoming album, Album of the Year will be released on September 14th. Catch Black Milk, and cuts off the new album at S.O.B.’s on August 3rd. When critics compare you to the late Tupac Shakur, you know your doing something right. Freddie Gibbs emerged out of a disheveled Gary, Indiana street corner. When you hail from the same city as the famous Jackson Five, you know you have to do your city right and Freddie Gibbs does just that. Before even releasing an album, Freddie Gibbs was offered a deal by Intercscope Records. Freddie’s music is described as a play-by-play look at street politics. Now through his Gibbs Family label, Freddie plans on releasing his highly anticipated ep Str8 Killa on August 3rd 2010. On August 3rd, please join us at S.O.B’s for a night of partying with Black Milk & Freddie Gibbs celebrating his new release! Don’t miss out!”
