Thursday, February 2nd, 2012PERSONA LA AVE – MUSIC WILL NEVER LEAVE ME (EP)
Thursday, February 2nd, 2012
Trillevator muzak, very soothing floating down a river of dreams in a warm blanket kind of sounds. Jokes aside, if you like Friendzone when they’re in near-ambient mode this one is a must. That applies to everything I found on the Persona La Ave bandcamp page, this one EP just happened to jump out at me more than the others. Unfortunately I know nothing about it except that it seems to be from Knoxville.
A couple more streams from this person(s?) are linked below.

Rad Reef Presents: Main Attrakionz Live At The New Parrish
Thursday, February 2nd, 2012
Main Attrakionz live at New Parrish. Once again we did the best we could. Thankfully Space Age Hustle supplied us with the instrumentals, and we had an isolated track for the vox, but as it turns out the playback speed of the beats was slightly slower than the instrumentals. It’s funny how the slightest of technical difficulties–like this .5 second discrepancy int he overall length of the track–can totally ruin something. Well anyways, it wasn’t totally ruined. And we did our best to find a happy medium between not working too hard, and getting the music to sound clear. We’re happy with the final product, and we hope you will be too. Check www.radreef.com for a .zip when the downloads here expire.
Some recent favorites and a rare live performance of ‘Legion OF Doom’. MAz are far from polished as a live act, but they make up for the rough spots with sheer enthusiasm and a genuine appreciation for the crowd. This recording captures their exuberance pretty well.

Killer Mike – Brainwashed By London Freestyle (Prod. By Clams Casino)

This was my most wanted audio of all the Pitchfork Selector freestyles, I just couldn’t figure out how to rip it right. It’s not only my favorite of the series, I also prefer it to the original Jealous Guys version of the song. Luckily Pitchfork just released the audio for all the Selector Freestyles in one handy compilation, which you can download HERE. The Clipse/DOOM freestyle on there is also highly recommended, even though its just a rehash of well worn verses.

These damn teenagers and their spelling, back in my day we just threw z’s on the end of everything and called it a day… Don’t even worry about what that title is, just listen to ‘Mystical Maze’

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012
Now-Again launches New York funk/soul researcher and archivist David Griffith’s Orivious Records with a masterpiece: the sole document of a lost and unlikely teenage “sweet-funk” collaboration between Rochester, NY vocalists The Darling Dears and backing band Funky Heavy. Originally issued in 1972, the record never made it beyond city’s west side. Today, this rare and exquisite blend of fragile female harmony atop an unexpected bed of raw, plodding funk commands four figures at auction when it appears in its original form.
The juxtaposition of the falsetto (?) vocals against the slow deep funk background on this is incredible.

Is this over a Weeknd song or something? I wouldn’t know, I’m not a fan of that guy at all. Tink continues to get better and better though, and the beat suits him well.
