I realize everybody has some very important teenage angst to pour over this week, and that’s all good and worthwhile, but you should really check out Hail Mary Mallon’s Are You Gonna Eat That too. It’s a lot more fun. Aesop and Rob Sonic make for a great combination, there is an obvious rapport between the two. Both seem to sacrifice a tiny bit of their individual eccentricities to work better in tandem. As a result they actually sound like a group as opposed to two people sharing the same record (this is most evident on the numerous back-and-forth verses). The album is also refreshingly free of outsider involvement, there are no guest features, even the production is aptly handled by the group members themselves. And it all sounds very original, there isn’t really anything else out right now that I could compare it to. It’s just really good and very very entertaining. You should go get it.

This particular song is my favorite at the moment, but there are many others that I could use to show the album’s considerable merits.

I’m not keen on sucking famous indie rapper cock, but this blip of a sneak peek into the world of Hail Mary Mallon is true genius. HMM is the creation of Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic. I own everything Rob Sonic’s contributed to from compilations to albums and so on. His lack of notoriety is more than baffling as he aptly demonstrates his ability to go toe-to-toe with Aes Face (proof here). And while Aesop Rock isn’t a personal favorite, he’s obviously one of the most capable cats inside of the indiesphere. As the enthusiasm gap widens between artists and fans, it is bizarre and intentional efforts like this promo piece that still stir a flicker of imagination and provide an incentive to follow the project through to realization (translation: Hopefully, if it is a good album, you buy the shit and and play it your iPod).

Not being familiar with Felt’s previous efforts I found last year’s Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez to be some wild shit. Primarily due to the power-production (nh) of Aesop Rock. Unfortunately nothing remains pure forever and the cum stain they call Grieves touched tips with Budo and this is the result. Start paying that dude in sandwiches.
