K-DEF – Ghettoman’s Hideout EP SNIPPETS

What I really like about K-Def’s instrumental work is how he largely ignores modern trends and makes absolutely no effort to update his sound for them. Yet at the same time he is not resting on old laurels like most of his contemporaries. Instead he is still progressing, still refining his techniques, still getting better at what he does. He might be instrumental hip-hop’s analogue to artists like Ka and Roc Marciano – he is creating music that at a glance seems like a throwback but at closer consideration reveals itself to be a subtle evolution of classic styles, not just a retread of them.
