Before we announce the #1 Top Ten-est Rap Album of All Time next week I wanted to focus on albums that just missed the top ten. These are all excellent albums that sadly had a fatal flaw I could not over look.

Black Moon – Enta The Stage
Download

Pros

– Beat Minerz productions and Buckshot killing it for the first and only time.

Cons

– Featured 5 Ft. and Dru Ha, and the body count was just to ridiculous coming from two rappers under 5 feet tall and 120 pounds.

Redman – Whut Tha Album
Download

Pros

– Not a bad song on the album, thick funk production and Redman at the height of his powers.

Cons

– To many stories of sharing women with Erick Serman and “Accidental” encounters with tranies.

Clipse – Lord Willin
Download

Pros

- Great coke rap and amazing production

Cons

– Not being able to tell the rappers apart, guest appearances and Pharell

Main Source – Breaking Atoms

Pros

- Large Pro production and rapping.

Cons

– Some nerd shit

Diamond D & The Psychotic Neurotics – Stunts Blunts and Hip Hop
Download

Pros

– Excellent production, Diamond is surprisingly adept on the mic

Cons

– Features Fat Joe and Lord Jammar

INFO:

The Prologue Pt. 1 (out Monday, March 15th) is the first installment of the 2 part project introducing Aleon Craft and the Solar-Hop Chronicles (Part 2 out Monday, April 19th). Rewind a few years ago, Craft was better known as “Big Marc,” of Da Backwudz. The southern rap duo was signed to a major label (Universal/Rowdy Records), and he was working with some of the biggest producers and artists in hip-hop (ex. Nas, DJ Toomp, George Clinton, Organized Noise, Slim Thug, Dallas Austin, and many more). Fast-forward to today, Aleon Craft has recently joined forces with SMKA (Music Producers) and Esperanza (Visual Artists) to chronicle his work and life stories. Craft has spent the past few years, as an independent artist and exploring the galaxy, experimenting with music. The Prologue is a collection of songs, written by Aleon Craft, that showcases the re-creation and re-introduction of the artists, Aleon Craft.

Warm weather hit the North East this weekend like a mid-coital slap from a big breasted girl riding on top. As these things usually go, the sunshine forced me to lift the self-imposed winter reggae ban in favor of some irie shit. This was the specific irie shit I chose for the occasion.

The title pretty much says it all – this is a collection of obscure British dancehall singles released on the Unity Sounds label in the mid-late 80s. Deceptively simple digital production dictates the sound, these producers amply demonstrate how some bass and Casio drums can go a loooong way. The singing and the toasting is not too shabby either. Parallels to early electro Hip-Hop are easily apparent, as are the influences on later permutations of ragga. As usual with these things, versions are included.

Release Notes:

The Mixtape Marvel is back with another collectors edition mix. ‘Ready to Die: The O.G. Edition’ is a must-own for fans of hip-hops legend, Biggie Smalls. The 1994 debut album from the Brooklyn rapper is considered a classic not only in rap, but in all of music. The ‘O.G. Edition’ gives you the album in it’s ORIGINAL, UNCENSORED form… and even tosses in a few NEVER BEFORE HEARD gems including an unreleased freestyle B.I.G. recorded for Pepsi. Experience the album the way Biggie wanted you to (*in high quality*), before sample clearances and label executives got in the way. Many thought this material was long lost, never to be heard again… but the Mixtape Marvel delivers! Highlights on the CD include DJ Premier’s version of “Machine Gun Funk”, the original version of “Me & My Bitch”, the unheard original version of “Whatchu Want” and an entirely shocking version of “The What” featuring 2 never before heard verses from the Notorious One. 5 NEVER BEFORE HEARD bonus tracks are also included at the end of the CD featuring demos and unreleased material including the 1991 recording “Biggie Got The Hype Shit”, which was thought to be lost in a fire and never to see the light of day. Rejoice Biggie fans… this is your must have edition of ‘Ready to Die’.
