Video for what may be Troy Ave’s best song to date. If he can make a mixtape full of tracks like this he’ll be really onto something.

VIDEO: Troy Ave – Silver & Grey/Motion Picture
Tuesday, March 13th, 2012Rome Fortune – Red Tithes ft J.O. Skii
Tuesday, March 13th, 2012
New video for one of the tracks from Rome’s Voyeur EP. A unique concept here, Rome casts himself as a man so desperate he murders someone just to raid the victim’s pockets (appropriately he gains nothing from it.) J.O. Skii plays the voice of conscience, arguing against Rome’s actions. Which makes for another unusual wrinkle, as the video turns their collaboration into a confrontation.
TREE – Sunday School (Mixtape)
Sunday, March 11th, 2012
Come for the unique production weaving a tangled net of vocal samples and off-kilter drums, then stay and replay a bunch of times when you realize that TREE is a much better rapper than you originally gave him credit for and that his songs get stuck in your head like crazy.
I would strongly suggest listening to this via good headphones, just streaming it from a laptop is not gonna do it justice.

Video: P. Dukes – Propane
Wednesday, March 7th, 2012
Let’s call this country rap blues. Or maybe Stax Rap. Either way, you get the idea. Taken from P.Duke’s very solid Easy Money 3.
Western Tink – Chillin Like A Civilian Mixtape (Hosted By Beautiful Lou)
Monday, March 5th, 2012
A stopgap drop from Tink while we wait for the Mobbin No Sobbin album, with Beautiful Lou on hosting duties. Lots going on here for such a short release: ‘Summerdonnasloft’ is still my shit, Lou’s beat on ‘Live And Let Die’ promises big things for album, and there is yet another impressive Tink vs Green Ova collab to tie it all together. Premiered via The Fader.

Bonus points: This unreleased gem popped up on Keyboard Kid’s bandcamp over the weekend. It wouldn’t sound out of place on the mixtape above.
G-Side – Live From The Parish (SXSW, 03/18/2010)
Monday, March 5th, 2012
Over the last few years G-Side have become an accomplished live act, playing sold out shows and festivals all over US and Northern Europe. But before all that was this 2010 SXSW set, their first appearance at the conference, one of the first major shows they ever played. It was a pivotal moment in the group’s history, an introduction to the world at large in form of some of their best work prior to The One… Cohesive and iSLAND albums. As G-Side now ready for their third visit to the Austin gathering, SMS and Steadybloggin proudly present the complete audio from that date, available for the first time for download in a proper tracked and mastered format. Enjoy.
Thanks to SMS, NPR, The Parish, SXSW Music and Media Conference. Cover art by John Turner Jr.
MondreM.A.N – MC ILLIN (mixtape)
Wednesday, February 29th, 2012
At this point I’m actively wondering if and when the MAz sleep, eat and shit… cause honestly I’m not sure how it’s possible to release this much music and still tend to even most basic of life’s needs. This is another new mixtape, another solo Mondre jawnt, with production by Ryan Hemsworth, Friendzone and Al Jieh of SWTBRDS (among others I’m guessing).
EDIT: If you produced something on this, check in with the rest via comments below.

Love this kind of rap, cool and calm with hints of menace lurking right under the smooth surface.
