Finess The Great & Western Tink – Problems (Prod. by Curtiss King)

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Tink’s Weeknd rework is still one of my favorite random songs of the year, and he should do a whole tape of just those. But meanwhile this is a good summery collab with Finess The Great.

MC Zulu & Mochipet – Mochipet is Evil (ISSUE Remix)

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

To be honest I don’t really like the original version of the song, but young ISSUE turns it into some really evil mutant dancehall noise and that I do like a lot. Would be really crazy if somebody made a dub version of this.

Main Attrakionz – J Bar (Odd Nosdam remix)

Monday, April 16th, 2012

I guess this is the remix that was mentioned in the write up for cLOUDLIFE on Rad Reef’s bandcamp page. TBH I like this more than any of the originals on that EP.

thanks to Employee for the heads up

VIDEO: Riff Raff – Time

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

A few days late on this. A full blown country song, potato chips pon him, starfish hair… this is tremendously entertaining all around.

Himself The Majestic – Magic Show / Dizzy D – Dunkin on Em

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

Some really good tracks from Blown’s Slam Dunk Contest Vol 1 EP, which I completely missed. The rest of the EP is not too shabby either, but these two are standouts.

.L.W.H. – Regulate Ur Gat

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

A bizzarely gorgeous instrumental from LWH’s upcoming CIA TV. Very different from what Hodge and Julian Wass previously cooked up with the Chandelier Instrumentals, this track is much more lush and cinematic; more reminiscent of Morricone’s vistas than John Carpenter’s nervy windups.

Shady Blaze – I Don’t Care (Produced by BLISSED OUT)

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

When I spoke with Shady recently he mentioned that he enjoys working with different producers because he doesn’t want all his music to sound ‘samey.’ He is in search of a variety that represents his own diverse tastes, and that puts this song into a neat context. While his Green Ova cohorts have made few nods to the Hipnotize Minds sound in the past, Shady himself has never really engaged it, at least not to the extent we see here. So this is one more musical locale for him to visit on what promises to be an extensive multi-destination pilgrimage.

H3VTH CVR1NG – THX WVLL (C&S Mix)

Monday, April 9th, 2012

Choice bits of Pink Floyd’s The Wall, screwed down and mixed with bits of rap (the turn into Ice Cube’s verse from ‘Color Blind’ is particularly impressive). An interesting, impressively executed idea that almost made my day 100% but stumbled at the regrettable inclusion of that cringe-worthy Drake song. Granted, the Drake part only takes 2 minutes of 26 minute running time, and the rest of this is great, but I just have a hard time stomaching his shit for any period of time at all.
