Denmark is on a roll with these Monday videos (see HERE and HERE for more)

VIDEO: Tree – Call Me

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

New Newly re-upped visuals from what has become my favorite mixtape of the year so far (Ka has the top honors in the album category.)

VIDEO: Denmark Vessey – That One Thai Joint (Prod by @Scudone) / Quelle Chris – 2Dirt4TV Trailer 1

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Beat takes a page from the ‘when Stones Throw samples exotic world music’ playbook, Denmark does well with it.

Below the jump, the trailer for Denmark’s Crown Nation partner Quelle’s collaboration with Dibia$e.

Stalley – Hammers & Vogues Ft. Curren$y (Prod By Block Beattaz)

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Stalley undoubtedly does well here, but what really has me thinking thangz is the idea of Curren$y on Block Beattaz beats. Next step: a 10 minute long weed-tributing opus produced by Block Beattaz, featuring Spitta, G-Side, GMane, Stalley and Fiend. Bonus points for Junebug adlibs.

VIDEO: Denmark Vessey – Crack Babies

Monday, March 19th, 2012

I’m having a hard time establishing if this is really new or just new to the blogs today, but either way it’s dope. Denmark here vaguely reminds me of Mos Def circa when Mos Def was still Mos Def and actually good.

Danny Brown – Baseline

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

On first impression this is the standout from the 3 bonus tracks included in the deluxe edition of XXX. And it’s not even Brown’s rapping that makes it, it’s his ear for production. This beat is something else, nothing but sparse percussion and some noise reminiscent of jangling chains. So weird that it feels like an eccentric outlier even in the context of an album marked by unusual adventurous production.

TREE – Sunday School (Mixtape)

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

Come for the unique production weaving a tangled net of vocal samples and off-kilter drums, then stay and replay a bunch of times when you realize that TREE is a much better rapper than you originally gave him credit for and that his songs get stuck in your head like crazy.

I would strongly suggest listening to this via good headphones, just streaming it from a laptop is not gonna do it justice.

Tree – Die

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Tree is quickly becoming one of my favorite new discoveries of this year (thanks David).  The interview above has some good background info about him, and you can stream the song that’s playing during the interview below.  Based on all that I have high hopes for his upcoming Sunday School project.

VIDEO: King Foe (of BLKHRTS) – FOE / Junkie

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

‘FOE’ above, ‘Junkie’ below. Pay attention kids, this is the right way to do scary nihilistic drug rap. Both songs can be downloaded via www.BLKHRTS.com

Thanks to Zilla Rocca for the heads up.

STREAM: BJ The Chicago Kid – The World Is A Ghetto Ft. Kendrick Lamar

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Kendrick dropping a verse over a DJ Battle Cat produced extrapolation of one of the greatest soul songs of all time, and it’s a weird 6 min jam with no real structure to boot …. holy shit. Between this and ‘Cartoons & Cereal’ Kendrick is really getting his ATLiens on.
