Tut-Piece – Gold Jury (Beat Tape)

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Sulty instrumentals sourced entirely from 80s soul samples. As yacht rap as it gets. Would kill to hear a Curren$y & Fiend duet on any one of these.

PERSONA LA AVE – MUSIC WILL NEVER LEAVE ME (EP)

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Trillevator muzak, very soothing floating down a river of dreams in a warm blanket kind of sounds. Jokes aside, if you like Friendzone when they’re in near-ambient mode this one is a must. That applies to everything I found on the Persona La Ave bandcamp page, this one EP just happened to jump out at me more than the others. Unfortunately I know nothing about it except that it seems to be from Knoxville.

A couple more streams from this person(s?) are linked below.

Rome Fortune & Childish Major – V O Y E U R (EP)

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Rome Fortune’s deeply personal, at times almost uncomfortably honest concerns and sentiments unleashed in bursts of dense semi-abstract rap over waves of Childish Major’s hypnotic electrofunk. Some of the better different/kinda-experimental art-hop released in the last several months, well deserving of a space on the same shelf with Shabazz Palaces, Ethereal and Cities Aviv.

VIDEO: Frankie P – Hallway Music / Dykman Street 4:01AM

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Another classy video for one of the best and most underrated instrumental albums in recent memory. Directed by Nelson Noel Salcedo

Just a thought… an ASAP Rocky + Frankie P collaboration could kick-start another Harlem Renaissance or some such.

Best use of ‘Feel It All Around’ to date. Could use more Pat in the end though.

Bad Slorp produced Antwon’s My West Side Horizon. This is a small collection of his luxurious yacht rap beats. Music for Camp Lo songs about champaigne brunches.

Self explanatory. The intro is murderous.

Eric G – Stars & Lights

Somewhere between a regular sample driven beat tape and an ambient soundtrack to a space opera, leaning more toward the latter. Highly recommended for night time listening/floating.
