Philaflava: Take It Personal (Passing The Torch)

Episode 7 might sound more like Drink Champs cuz we were highly intoxicated while recording this, but the music, like always, is on point Phife. We don’t necessarily have a theme this show, but we do focus on MC’s making dope music these days. It’s our passing of the torch episode, so-to-speak. We got joints from Your Old Droog, Nick Grant, Apathy, Killer Mike, Action Bronson, Roc Marciano and Milano Constantine to name a few. And it wouldn’t feel right dropping this show on March 9th without paying homage to Biggie, so keep it locked as we try to entertain you once again on Take It Personal.

Pyramid Quince – Lean on Me / Do U 2k15

Two new-ish songs from Pyramid Quince, who’s predilection for a spacey widescreen sound makes him a solid candidate for my favorite Awful member. Do U 2k15 being a remake of a great Twista/Do Or Die summer jam definitely goes a long way too. Both songs produced by Dexter Dukarus.

Keep forgetting to post this, but it’s one of my favorite songs of the year. Also, LOOK AT THAT JACKET!

Stackin’ And Mackin’ 3 will be out very soon apparently.

Fuck yea, a new Outfit EP. This one is meant to spotlight Dallas’ burgeoning underground scene, hence the features on every track – they are all local guys who were features in Mel’s scene report for Noisey.

ST 2 Lettaz – Good Day in the Ghetto EP

New solo EP from ST 2 Lettaz of G-Side fame. Produced entirely by The Block Beattaz, of course, but the sound here is harder than on their previous space age exploits. There’s a feature from Clova (so it’s technically a G-Side song), a surprising cross-generational collab with The Migos and Hunstville legend Big Pope, and a nice cameo from another old HSV favorite Mic Strange. All in all good stuff. Read ST’s own description of the project below.

“I literally tried to format it like a TV series. This is season one and it’s mostly an introduction to the main character Crooked Letter. He is basically my whole crew I hustled with rolled into one person. All the stories, the personality traits, even his moral compass, it all derived from real people and real events. It’s 30 minutes long and even ends with a cliff hanger. To me, it’s a chance for the listener to let go of real life for a minute and live through my eyes and see what a good day in my ghetto consists of…and in some cases, it ain’t all good. The tape starts out with a nightmare.”
