After several months of intense chopping, screwing (||), mixing, selecting and arranging, here is Lean On Me. We (The Steady Bloggin Braintrust) are very grateful to P. Jones and Groove Daniels of Soul Division for working with us on this all the way from Norway, tirelessly sending us track after track of quality material for our merciless selection process, and patiently sticking with us as we obsessed over minutiae of track arrangement and sequencing. New GMane, produced by Caness of Parallel Thought. A whole album of this kind of gangstafied crooning would hit the spot really well, we already know GMane got the voice to pull it off and I’m pretty sure Caness and the other Parallel Thought guys have beats to match.
So basically all sorts of crazy obscure 60s and 70s OST funk and jazz and soul whatever else influences his own awesome music. Drink wine on a bearskin rug to this one.
The SMKA boys get tremendous propers for making this project happen. Craft and Clinton’s album of P-Funk remixes and brand new collaborative tracks will occupy space on this blog on the 20th.
Smashing modern update of The Stylistics classic. The song is taken from Makeda’s You May Enter EP, which is mostly of comparable quality. It sports a strong Badu influence but is also a very strong piece of spaced out soulful R&B in its own right, and I say that as somebody who doesn’t really enjoy most modern R&B.
Very very cool video for one of the many great tracks from Frankie P’s Hazy Night In The Heights, which remains one of the best and most instrumental underrated albums of this year. Gotta give a lot of credit to Emmanuel “Dj Boy” Abreu here, who shot/directed/edited this and did a whole lot with obviously a very small budget. The split screens combined with the propulsive nature of the song itself do a good job of creating tension, and there’s a surprising minor self contained plot that takes the video a notch above the usual.
