Real lyricism is back and thanks to Vakill you can get your fix on his latest album Armor of God. Check out the latest collabo featuring Crooked I, Rhymefest, Nino Bless and the infamous Juice. It’s nice to hear those two together again, though I strongly disagree with Juice’s intro line. Vakill knows whats up though, check the cap in the picture. Support Vakill and the Moleman and go cop the latest album here. –Philaflava
Something to end a grueling work week on a high note. Squadda hit me up with this exclusive taste of his upcoming Back Selling Crack mixtape, the cover for which is above. As per his description, the mixtape is going to feature production from southern producers who haven’t had a lot of internet/blog exposure. Based on this track I’m guessing it’s probably gonna be on the more energetic and upbeat side of things.
When Marq first sent me the Snake Eyes Vs Storm Shadow mixtape he also threw in some unreleased raw Broady Champs sessions to be included as a bonus. Due to the large overall volume of material, I decided to save them for a separate post. Marq also wrote a foreword about how this music came about, in the process providing some invaluable background information about his career and experiences in the music industry. So here they are: The Broady Sessions.
Well… I had gotten a couple g’s for a single (back when you could get dough like that for like 2-3 songs lol) but it was a hectic time in my life. Lot of hustling but I was supposed to do a whole album for Subverse. I actually was spending like days at a time wit Big Juss and Scienz of Life, just chilling and vibing and recording. I had met Doom in 99 and used to just build on the phone wit him a lot as well. He actaully told me when I get my budget he’d produce my whole shit for like $200 a beat. Shit was looking really, really good for the kid goin into 2001, when my single dropped. I felt like my album was gonna be an underground classic. Shit I even ran into El-P in Atlanta around the time and he was like “yeah I heard your single, I like it” so I was feeling real confident.
For the past few years the whole LA scene has kinda been, well like the Lakers have been in the NBA playoffs. Every once in awhile a star is born and while this star has been around for a minute, OME’s career continues to shine brighter with each new release. If you’re a frequent member of Philaflava or stay up on dope music then chances are you’ve already seen the video. Just a few days ago we dropped the audio but now Steady B is debuting the MP3 for your iPOD pleasure. Now if the powers that be can make this Homeboy Sandman x OME project happen with production from Blockhead, then the internets can rest peacefully. –Philaflava
I have been a fan of MarQ Spekt since about 2002-ish, and as such I am very excited and proud to bring you this exclusive – a ‘lost’ project, recorded by Spekt and Huey P Capone in 2003 and 2004. It is presented in collaboration with School Of Sharks and www.grilchyface.com. Please read MarQ’s much more detailed write up below and enjoy.
Aaaight yo, we getting this thing moving with the mixtape and other things we have coming…figured it would be a good time to take it back for a sec. Let folks know this ain’t no new thing. I was picked by Bigg Jus of Co Flow in 2001 for a deal with Subverse records….Needless to say I got a chance to build with extraordinary artists like DOOM, C rayz Walz, John Robinson etc. but the deal wentsouth and I sought the solace of my team (Broady Champs). We have a deep archive dating back to 2000. Lots of music and solo projects that have never had a mainstream release. Some of these had been pressed up and handed out during shows and on the streets but never online in any forms. One of these projects that had a nice street level buzz was a tape that me and Huey P Capone (formely known as N.Y.C.E from Brooklyn) had done. (more…)
An old school gem courtesy of Nobs (aka @thepilotson) of the Philaflava/TROY forum, big props to him. As per his description:
…an unreleased demo that was shopped to be put on the “Who’s The Man” soundtrack and never made it. I love finding unknown shit and Jazzy Jay killed this beat. King Sun killed the rhymes. dope guitars and pianos over a hard drum break.
The two men responsible for conceiving the SMS zeitgeist make a very rare tag-team appearance on wax, laying down the Speed Of Sound 2011 manifesto. Former intern, now full-time next generation Block Beatta R.Dot expertly flips a jazz classic to soundtrack the proceedings. Not going to bother with any further words, the song says it all.
Huge thanks to Codie for letting me drop this one.

Dense lyrics by Squadda and Mondre, dense production from Squadda and friends splitting time between weightless psychedelia and intense necksnapping freakouts, an aesthetic focused on progressive sound while never abandoning appreciation for classic foundations – everything that I like about this group neatly packaged into a new 9 track EP. Big thanks and a huge shout out to Squadda and Mondre for putting us in the mix on this one.
I want to specifically single out track 7 on the EP, ‘Sweet Memories’ . This might be my favorite Main Attrakionz semi-throwback styled song to date, I’m a huge sucker for that Ike’s Mood break. Click on the song title above to check that out.
