Autumn Jazz Mix Vol 1 and 2

Two very mellow very smooth very relaxing very seasonally appropriate jazz mixes I’m shamelessly ripping from Soul Strut. Both were compiled by a guy named Funky Tee, both have been in steady rotation since I found them. Each one is fairly short, 24 and 35 minutes respectively, so they work best when paired together. Probably not the best music for a Friday night unless you plan on staying in, but they’re fantastic for being lazy on a weekend afternoon. Track lists for both are below.

SteadyB and Soul Division are doin’ thangs. Specifically, we’re doing a chopped and screwed compilation which we will drop in a near future. Expect to see a grip of new and classic tracks selected with care by a distinguished and discerning brain trust comprised of the guys in Soul Division (who will naturally handle all the chops and slows), Blast and myself. Rest assured that we will take, drink and smoke all the drugs we can get our hands on to guarantee you the best and stoniest quality possible.

Billy Woods & Elucid – Bank Of America (produced by Marmaduke)

These days I don’t have much taste for the dissonant & paranoid side of the NY underground, I kinda OD’d on it back in the Def Jux glory days. But once in while some of it does catch my ear, like this track here. Billy Woods and Elucid are both undoubtedly talented rappers, but often choose production that’s too chaotic and abrasive for my liking (Elucid especially). Here it’s not too bad; the beat is drum heavy and chopped just right, metallic screeching is minimal and the Nina Simone sample is used much better than it was by those two famous rich dudes you might’ve heard about.
