Only four weeks of summer left officially, so make sure you bang it out with the sixth installment in the SLS series. Somethin’ for your car, somethin’ for your hangout spot, or just somethin’ for you to chill to. Hella shouts to dirt_dog from TROY for the artwork. As we continue on into one-a-week territory, lets ignore the back to school ads which usually signal the end of summer with our fifth installment in the SLS series. Found this on Soulstrut, it was compiled by a guy named The Gaffler. Let’s call this Yacht Soul – same vibes as your standard issue ‘best of Cross/McDonald mix’ but built with bits of Billy Dee Williams approved early 80s jazz and soul instead of AM Gold Rock. Great for soundtracking your laid back weekend balling activities.
This was the accompanying description:
Private label jazz & modern soul mix. No release date [198?]. There is some water damage on the cover from what looks to be red wine, and there is some sand inside the jacket. Nothing but smooth sailing from start to finish.
Grip Plyaz is as country as it gets. His accent is as thick as the models he enlisted for his “Step Out” video, and his references are chock full of Southern-fried slanguage. With Volume 2 around the corner and Purp, Wind And Fire not too far behind, it looks as if the ATLien will be making waves this year. And it begins with 6 Pack: Volume 1, presented by DJ FU, Governed By Loyalty and TSS. Alongside the production of The Weathermen and with the the assistance of a few A-town natives, this mix is a precursor, one intended to raise familiarity with the artist and his sound. So grab yourself a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon, turn those speakers up and get ready to meet the man of the hour.
Props to TSS. Back cover with tracklist and more info is below. (more…)
Remember Lee Fields’ My World aka one of the best albums of 2009 aka a top 5 soul album made in the last 20 years or so? If you forgot about how great it was, or never heard it to begin with, or just need some soul your life in general, here’s a handy mix courtesy of Truth & Soul’sDJ Akalepse.
Have you been searching for a way to be involuntarily committed to a psychiatric institution? This should do the trick. Call your parents and play this for them over the phone. At least it’s a soundtrack worthy of going out to.
As we continue on, our Sounds Like Summer series adds another volume while the humidex/heat index pushes past 100 in the north east. Somethin’ for your car, somethin’ for your hangout spot, or just somethin’ for you to chill to. Hella shouts to dirt_dog from TROY for the artwork. I was getting my musical ducks in the row for the upcoming weekend, and I noticed I had a bunch of K.R.I.T. tracks laying around that weren’t on K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. So I put them together into a nice neat little folder, and then I figured there’s probably a few more out there that I don’t have. I scoured the internet, and I found ahem… a couple more, and my little folder swelled to 35 tracks. This guy has a hell of a work ethic.
Here it is then for your listening pleasure, 150mb worth of old and new random solo songs, freestyles, collaborations and guest appearances. It’s split into 2 zips to ease the downloading. I tried my best to avoid any crossovers with K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, but some of these can be found on other mixtapes (like The Last King for example).
