Just a short snippet, hopefully more will materialize soon.
What’s really cool about this, aside from the music itself, is that after a very long career of working almost exclusively within a mostly closed circle of friends/co-conspirators, El-P is finally turning his talents toward a wider area of possible collaboration. Aside from Killer Mike, work with both Big Boi and Yelawolf has been hinted at via twitter and hopefully there will be more. Consider Freeway’s EMG freestyle as another example of the possibility at hand. Hypothetically speaking – a producer driver album ala Pete Rock’s Soul Survivor series or Doom’s King Gheedora, featuring a mix of established affiliates like Aesop and Breeze Brewin with newer acquaintances like the ones mentioned above – that could be great.
The best thing I can say here is that this looks like what G-Side sounds like. See more at www.hsvinternational.com
Gonna briefly break kayfabe – this commercial was made by good friends of mine, two very talented people I’ve now known for a very long time. I’m insanely proud of them for this one. You can see more of their work here and here
If you don’t know, Panna Rittikrai is the godfather of modern Thai action cinema (which by extension makes him one of the most influential people in all action cinema of the last 7-8 years.) It would be no great overstatement to say that without his tutelage Tony Jaa would currently be delivering your curries and spring rolls instead of blowing his chances at being the biggest action star in the world. And when Panna really puts his heart into something the rest of the genre takes a series of repeated and painful knees to the face. No other action director/choreographer in history has ever shown less regard for the safety and well being of his stuntmen, but as the trailer below amply shows huge risks come with huge ass-whooping rewards.
Produced/directed by Tom Fitzgerald, Cut Chemist’s go-to video man who works also for Cinefamily in L.A., Edan’s Echo Party Movie is a fast-paced, retro onglomeration of unrelated and interesting video clips from the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s that prove to be like a Sour Patch Kid for the eye. Cut in perfect harmony with Edan’s music, the movie is an ideal synch for Echo Party’s multi-elemental vibe where, using Traffic’s extensive back catalogue of old school hip-hop, Edan mixes, reworks, and adds layers of his own instrumentation to create an eclectic blend of psychedlia and beats. The movie cuts in and out of old Indian/Bollywood films, spray painting graffiti artists, children operating computers, vintage ads, risque cartoons, and everything in between. Like the LP, each DVD cover is hand-stamped by the artist himself in one of five unique designs adding further to the artistic flair that could only be Edan’s. (The covers shown here are examples – each cover is different.)
That clip is almost too much to deal with for a slow monday afternoon but the concept is attractive and all things Edan-related are always at least worth a look. You can pre-order the dvd here and here. It ships Nov 9.

I have to say; I’ve heard of shows where a producer will conduct a beat on the spot live, I’ve heard of producers battling with pre-made material live and of course I’ve heard of emcees battling live. But producers battling against other producers with beats they have to make live in front of judges? With an audience and a strict time limit? That was something new. Tonight (Friday Oct 22nd) will mark the final installment in Sound Battle Royale’s $1500 Toronto-based tournament to find out who’s sharpest on the boards. Four producers have fought their way to the finals after winning a qualification battle that’s been taking place over the past 6 months and will now duke it out in front of a judging panel, an audience and special guest beatmaker Jake One. Check after the jump for more info on the tournament and media clips.
Grip Plyaz, along with Aleon Craft and a bunch of others are playing the Ballers Eve 7th Year Anniversary party tonight at the Gallery Bar in NYC (link takes you to the flier with details). Should be good.
That’s as good a reason as any to post this old Grip Plyaz track I recently came across.
