TDE continue to successfully filter Dungeon Family influences through a West Coast perspective. Controlsystem is very good, although not quite as good as Q’s Habit’s and Contradictions. Very strong in the beginning and middle, looses a little steam toward the end. While the experiments with style and structure are welcome and well executed, the strongest moments here are often the simplest. Most of the real highlights happen when Soul and his guests just settle into a simple loop and rip it to shreds. Everything beyond that feels ornamental, added to make things more interesting; the eccentric flourishes are a nice addition but never the main draw.
