Poppa LQ “Let The Streets Tell It”

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

South Central’s Poppa LQ is back with a “Ghetto Qur’an” type track over a simple but effective piece of DJ Bless production. Bless’ Never So Deep is a great place for a guy like LQ, who I don’t think I’ve heard from since that DBA “Fa Sheisty Cats” jam with Kurupt and WC. Your Entertainment, My Reality is a personal classic and I am excited to see this fella still active, so I will be updating you with new LQ shit for the foreseeable future.

Outkast – So Fresh So Clean (let’s get it on reprise) / The Marvellettes – Too Many Fish In The Sea (Oooh Edit) : two edits by DJ B.Cause

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

DJ B.Cause makes some really great edits/blends/whatever you wanna call it. Here are two examples. The first puts Outkast over Marvin Gaye, for a result that sounds like what a summer evening feels like. The second takes a classic by a Motown doo-wop girl group and adds a bit of De La’s Oooh into the backbone, thus creating something that Scorsese would probably really like to dance to but wouldn’t know how.

Matt Gamin and Seven Davis Jr. – “Gutter Thump” EP

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Matt Gamin is gaming. His work ethic has been unfuckwitable the past few years and this is another nice notch on the belt. The more of his material I peep, the more distance he puts between himself and his counterparts.

Northern Lights – Cypher Complete (prod by Flying Lotus)

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

I’m not really a fan of Flying Lotus’ solo work, nor do I know anything about the Northern Lights. However I do enjoy people rapping over Flying Lotus production, especially when it’s done proficiently as is the case here. So here you go…

You can check out more Northern Lights on their bandcamp page, where they’re giving away this whole mixtape for free.

Two new items from SMS, courtesy of Codie G.

First, a new G-Side video for #I’m Sorry (produced by Bossman), featuring gratuitous shots of rockets and braggadocious handling of large amounts of US legal tender.

Second, a new DB49 track called In The House (produced by Sizahanz), played with a more sober tone than the rest of their songs so far. The cover art for their upcoming album Happy Hour is above (art by John Turner Jr).
